BIG MEDICINE SHOW QUESTION
Kamper:
Dr Garth and the lady therapist (don't remember her name) both went and visited her at her apartment. He put her on a strict liquid diet. She has to start losing some weight before he'll consider doing surgery. It's up in the air yet as to whether or not she'll be approved for surgery. The therapist has some concerns as to whether or not she's emotionally ready and will be able to comply with aftercare, without family support. It's to be continued..... Hope this helped!! DeeAnn
I always tape that show and watch it at least twice. The lady you're talking about is named Tiffany. She is staying in an apartment near the doctors while she's on the liquid diet. Dr. Garth questioned her a little, and it's obvious she has no education at all about what she should eat or what to expect after surgery. She doesn't even know what a carb is. It's a real sad thing. I think she's one of those people that think you can have WLS and the weight just pours off with no effort or changes on the part of the patient. Her family didn't seem to know what was going on either. They have some message boards on the Learning Channel website for the show, and sometimes the people involved post some messages, including Dr. Garth and the psychotherapist, Mary Jo. I've become online buddies with a lady they showed a couple of weeks ago, Kim, the lady with the really bad excess skin that didn't get insurance approval for PS. She now has approval and is having a tummy tuck soon, and will try to get some more surgery later on. She plans to return to the show next year to show her results.
That is great news about Kim! I have never seen so much extra skin before! My heart went out to her!! I don't know what the h*%$ is wrong with these insurance companies sometimes! I have never seen a more medically necessary case for skin removal. I wi**** was possible for some of the insurance co people to experience living with that condition for just 1 day!!!!!! They have fat suits now, someone needs to invent excess hanging skin suits!!!! and then require people making the decisions in these companies to wear them for a full day!! DeeAnn
