Woe is me!!! ....

Hee, hee, hee!  OK, so I am freaking out a bit about being on a plateau for the last 2 months.  I'm almost 15 months out from RNY and I was lucky enough not to hit any stalls along the way until 2 months ago. Two months ago I hit my doctors goal and my weight was around 165.  Since then I have bounced around but consistently stayed around the 165 mark.  No matter what I do, the scale will NOT budge!  My doctors wanted my goal to stay around 165 because at that time my body fat percentage was exactly 20%.  I exercise very hard and I eat around 1300-1400 calories a day.  My dietician said I can easily eat  2000 calories along with my exercise just to maintain.  So, why am I not losing anymore?  I'm eating way less than I need to maintain plus I'm exercise like a fiend!   What is wrong with me?  Will this plateau end and will I start to lose again?  Or is it harder for me to lose now that my body fat percentage is low? I'm just frustrated ... thank you for listening and letting me vent! Deanna  :)

Deanna~ What I have learned in my carb numbers quest is that you need to eat more!  Right now, your body is probably in starvation mode.  If your nutritionist said that you could probably eat around 2000 calories and still maintain, you should try to increase your calories.  It probably would freak me out to attempt to eat that many, but as you said....you exercise hard!  Girl~feed your muscles!!  You have nothing to lose by trying. I hit two small plateaus during my loss process ( I am two years out now) and when I increased my calories, the plateau ended. BTW~thanks so much for the protein ball recipe...I would like to try making them at home.  I am a little concerned about the carb thing, but as I am learning, I must embrace some carbs in my diet. Have a great day!! Anjanette

Hi Anjanette! Thanks so much ... I'm scared to death to try and eat more!  My entire life I always tried to "diet" so eating more is an odd concept to me.  But my dietician also told me to eat more.  It's just scary!  Ha, ha!  I'm just tired of being stuck here! Deanna  :)

Girl - I hear ya. I AM SO FRUSTRATED. I wish I had lost as much.  I'm STUCK at 230.  And I MEAN STUCK.  I can eat sooooo good for weeks and weeks and weeks.  Less then 1500 cals a day.  Mathematically I should loose right?  WRONG. Then I can just go off the deep end and eat like a pig for weeks.  God only knows how many cals.  Fried food.  Sugar.  Take out.  Fast food.  Crap crap crap.  And you know what I weigh when it's all said and done? 230!!!!!! How's that for motivation?  Seriously.  Why do I even try anymore.  If that GD scale doesn't say 22SOMETHING pretty soon I am going to just freak out.  I mean - ONEderland seems impossible at this point.

Try staying away from sugars and fast food.Go back to when you had sugery and follow the rules. I did not see that you were exercising.Strat on a routine and build up from your starting point. You should not only lose weight but also you will feel better about yourself..........bob

MrsAmyB, I so totally get where your coming from.  I have been stuck at the exact same weight you are for about 7 months and everything I try to do is no good.  I am seriously thinking of doing the time out which I kind of did a week ago until I read where you need to use Nector or Essance which I do not have so I have stopped it.  Let me know what you do to jump start you weight loss because at this point I feel like such a failure.  Take care and good luck with your stall if you want to keep in touch just send me an email at [email protected]. Amy I was stuck at 200 for almost 2 years until 7/24/07 finally I lost 6.5 pounds. It really seemed that no matter what I did I stayed the same. Cutting calories, exercising, drinking water or even piggin out never made any lasting difference. I was so frustrated most of the time. I really do not know what made me lose this month, maybe just my body knowing how much I tried or God wanting me to stop complaining, hehe  All I do know is that now I am obsessed with not putting that 6 back on. I wish I could just be grateful for the 164 pound loss and relax but I am more consumed by food than ever which I know is about as healthy as putting on all that weight again.  I dont think I have any words of wisdom for you, I just wanted you to know that I really understand your battle.  Good Luck Diana RNY 9/17/03 360/196/still aiming at 180

I think eating a bit more is the thing to do. I would however closely monitor the scale and but a stop to it if it goes up more than 3 pounds (thats a pretty average water weight increase for me anyway, meaning I can be up or down that given any minute it seems hehe) I would also make darn sure that any "extra" calories be good nutritional choices. Good Luck, if you have ever read any of my posts you know I truly understand ;-) Diana RNY 9/17/03 360/196/still aiming at 180

Hi Diana! You know, now that you mentioned the water weight thing ... I'm wondering if that is why I'm up 2 pounds today.  I know I should start my cycle in about a week and now that I think of it, I usually do that around this time.  My body kind of bloats up or something!  Guess I need to add some more water!   Thanks for your advice! Deanna  :)

I'm exactly 2 day older than you in surgiversary time. I hit plateau's along the way, so maybe your's just ganged up and decided to do it all at once. Maybe you can cut back a little on the calories or up your excercise? I find that if I dont' eat enough..I stall out.. body goes into starvation mode. :) Here's to us May folks! :)  269/141/135 Jess
