I have been meaning to ask if any of you have had this problem and what suggestions do you have for relief.(besides sitting on pillow or cushion.) For the past several months I have been having pain when sitting and even when lying down on my back. The pain is from my tail bone and other pelvic bone that are no longer cushioned like they were in the past. Right now I am sitting on my cushioned couch and will have to find an other postion in which I can get comfortable. I have been exercising. Any suggestions? It really does hurt. Thanks Sher

I also have had this problem.  Butt, pun intended, what a great problem to have:)  I have wondered if this is just how it is suposed to be?

You could try an inflatable ring called a "donut" to sit on. People use it after surgery in sensitive areas of their body. They can be found at your neighborhood drug store.

I suspect your problem is not related to weight loss but to an injury to your tail bone or sciatica.  You should discuss this with your family doc and see what the issue is.  Good luck.

I had the same problem when I lost my "padding"!  it goes away when your body gets accustomed to the new you. Michele

I would beg to differ from the poster who said it's not related to WLS.  Unless it was prior to surgery - that is possible - but after WLS it is most definately possible it's due to the loss of the padding. I've had alot of problems with sitting for periods of time and or if Im sitting for a long period when I get I feel like I've been sitting on my tailbone and taking the pressure off so it hurts like heck!!  I was informed that it would go away and yet I'm almost 3 years out and I still have this little problem though not as frequent or severely as in the beginning. The thing is that even when Im sitting on a soft surface it can hurt a bit....most of the time I have to sit sideways to find a little bit of relief. I hope someday it does get better for us.

Sher, I did not realize how uncomfortable sitting would become as I lost weight.  A lot of the 'junk in the trunk' I had was in the form of a fat pad that was at the top of my buttock area.  The area taking the pressure of sitting was not padded.  Sitting for long periods, especially on airplanes and in movie theatres was really uncomfortable.  I was always shuffling around in my seat. I had a lower body lift on 10/18/2006 and had a procedure called buttock auto-augmentation using flap grafts done at that time.  This procedure involved taking the extra tissue that would have been removed from the LBL and creating flap grafts, then rotating them into the buttock (under the skin) to pad out the area.  It has made a huge difference in comfort level when sitting. This may be something to look into if you are considering plastic surgery in the future. Best wishes, Sharon

Hello Sher...first time visiting here and who do I see?  My fellow friend.  I also have a sore bottom especially on hard surfaces. So I suppose it is the loss of fat...Believe me I will take this discomfort over the many others I had before WLS. And hello to the others on this site.

It is His love and grace that saved and sustains me.

I have to concentrate when I am sitting for any long period to actually sit on my legs (rear side of thighs, have no ide what its called) or I am sitting on my spine. Many years of a huge butt & actual ledge back there makes me sit forward in chair & lean back. crazy enough I still do it even with butt smaller & ledge gone. My sweety is always reminding me to sit back because the pain gets so bad, but it better when I sit right, what I do it sit on the back of the chair and slide down to the sit and I find that really works for me. also I am starting to get sore spots & bruises on my back from sitting in chairs. Its nuts because I still am a big person.  Actually big on bottom but bones sticking out everywhere else. I was at an all day concert yesterday and my spine is so bruised. :-( who knew I would miss my padded body... Good luck!!! Diana RNY 9/17/03 360/196/still aiming for 180
