Any joggers out there?

I am 16 months out and still not at goal. *sigh* BUT I am doing everything I can to get there. I have a personal trainer and through him have recently discovered that I can RUN!!  Now these were short distances for speed.  Before WLS, I couldn't run anymore because of knee/ankle issues. Now, I 've decided I want to jog on my "off PT" days and I have gotten together with some ladies from my local support group to meet at a track and walk.  I made my first attempt at jogging there (where I felt SAFE with my girls) and was completely thrown for a loop! My knees don't hurt, my ankles don't hurt, I don't feel like an elephant, BUT my butt hurts!  The skin from the weight loss causes all this extra "jiggle" when I run and it really bothers me.  It actually hurts!  Now I know they make sports bras for us ladies, but sports panties??? Does anyone know of anyway to combat this?  I've been thinking of even wearing a girdle, but I don't want to feel all bound and confined when I am exercising.  Any ideas?

Hi Kathy! Congratulations on jogging!  I love it too!  It was always a goal of mine ... I used to want to be a runner so bad!  I also had problems with one of my knees but it's better now and when I run, it is fine! I totally know what you mean about your butt jiggling when you run!  I'm not sure if they make any sort of support underwear for that or not but it's a great idea!  I know they make moisture wicking underwear for those of us who sweat!  I just wear Jockey "no panty lines" hip briefs and they hold me in okay.  Could be better though. You should sign yourself up for a 5K run ... it's 3.1 miles and it's so much fun!  I have done three 5Ks and an 8K now and it gives you this great sense of accomplishment!  Most of them you can run/walk so you don't have to feel pressured to run the whole way.  And I'm always relieved to see there are plenty of women there in all shapes and sizes so it's not nearly as intimidating as I thought.  I have been trying to sign up for 1 run every month so that I keep myself training for them ... helps keeps me motivated! Great job!  It's a wonderful feeling to be able to run! Deanna  :)

I always wanted to be a runner too!  And the fact that I can probably do it now is totally blowing my mind. Someone on the exercise forum answered my question...COMPRESSION SHORTS. They look like bike shorts to me, but I guess they are tighter and are designed specifically to hold you in. So, I guess its time for another shopping trip. Who would have ever thought I would be so excited about exercising??

Hi Kathy~ You have stumbled upon my new passion!  I LOVE to jog!  And, yep, it HURTS!  So, I have tried many things and here is my best advice.  Wear TWO sports bras.  I like Champion or Vickie Secret's Shock Absorbers.  That will keep the girls in check if you know what I mean.   Then...for your thigh and tummy bra...LOL ~ I wear a combo for this too.  It's a bit spendy, but to me it's TOTALLY worth it.  I wear Spanxx higher power AND Champion O2 cool compression shorts.  I THINK, now that I have been doing this a while I might be able to just get by with the compression shorts, but I haven't tried it yet.   I started out jogging like 1/8 of a mile...lots of huff and puff.  And, now I can jog 2 miles at least!  Right now I am just doing a 1 mile route and I am trying to run it faster, with better form, and improve my time.  It's a great work-out and I never dreamed I could do this!!   I used to weigh 342.5 at my highest recorded weight.  I never would have dreamed in a million years that I would JOG!!  Now, I am 160 and jogging a mile like it's nothing.  PRAISE GOD! Be blessed~
Blessings~

I'm hoping it will become a passion for me.  I've decided to start training for a 5K that is in 9 weeks.  I've gotten an 8 week training schedule online.  I've even gotten a couple of other people in my support group on board.  I really want to do this! Keep your fingers crossed for me!
