Thank you, Grads!
Good evening!
I hope you are all well. Thank you all for your concern, support, and prayers!!!! A special thanks to Dx for checking up on me and keeping you updated. He has been such a wonderful source of support (not to mention the fantastic information he has to share, and his warm, wit, and charm to keep us smiling!!
You may be asking or thinking..........
So, Vanessa what happened?
Me...............
I don't really know! Egads!! I know that I had emergency surgery. I saw Dr. Lavin around noon and I was in the OR by 5 or 6. He wouldn't even let it go until the morning when he schedules surgery. I'm glad it happened that way because if I had had time to think about it, I'd have been more upset and scared than I was already!!!
This is what I *THINK* I know:
I had a "mechanical malfunction" at the Y intersection at the small bowel. He had to remove a section of bowel, rebuild the base connection, and sew it all back together. Because he could hear its location in the office with his stethoscope and because I've had more "complications" (I hate that word) than others, he decided to go open. This was a vertical cut because he needed to be high up and there was no use in cutting me at the bikini line and then having to cut me vertical anyway! Ugh! He also removed some adhesions and looked around all over for any holes that may need to be closed as a preventative measure regarding internal hernias. I believe he told me he couldn't find any. He also discussed my lower bowel/colon and gave a percentage which I do not recall as 50-75% (it seems) was totally shut down and not working at all. Goodness!!
When I saw him in the hospital on rounds, he told me that he gave me a fine plastic surgeon cut and sew -- which I had not even thought of!!! All drugged up and bandaged, I didn't see it until today and I wonder if Dr. Lavin missed his calling to be a plastic surgeon! This is the most amazing close up I've seen ever on anyone.
I have an appointment to see him on Thursday morning where I'll have him explain it all again and even ask him for an illustration. He can draw very well too!!! I need a visual. When I get the full, complete truth, I will update again!
The recovery room nurse told me that I was walking time bomb. I want to acknowledge that I am so very grateful that I was able to arrive in LA and see Dr. Lavin before something terrible had happened. I can't imagine a good outcome if I had exploded or perforated at the grocery store or the library or the YMCA or at home alone with Leah especially since the doctors there just kept passing me to someone else.
As some of you know, my husband was injured at work. I stayed in TX for his last PT eval to make sure he was able to get around, etc. Of course, we didn't plan for this though there truly is no other way. He cannot drive or fly here. We're both upset that we both need each other and we can't take care of each other. So, if you don't mind or feel so inclined, please keep him in mind through all of this with me too.
One more thing as I side note: I'M HUNGRY!!!!!!!! I'm on liquids only at least until Thursday and da*n it, part of the reason I come home at all is the wonderful food -- and Mom's is the best of the bestest so I am being TORTURED smelling and seeing this food! LOL I have SF Jello, broth, Popsicles....What else can I eat? Why don't I know this answer? Or is that the answer -- those three categories?
I hope you are all doing well and I will try to hop around the board a bit to check in on you all.
Thanks again! It means so much to me that you all care - as I do for you!
Blessings!!!
PS I hope this makes sense! I'm a little fuzzy!
I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side. The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.
