Ok, anyone have this experience.......Last Tuesday I started to get sharp/burning sensation in my left side and center, to just below my ribs.....I went to my surgeon on Wednesday who then sent me for a CAT SCAN, which indicated no blockage, leaks, or twists.....Also, keep in mind DX w/ GERD right before the surgery last year and ran out of my prescription Pepcip over the last 2 wks.  The Dr. then gave me a new prescription of Prevacid.  The pain then graduated into my back just below rib cage.  I didn't anything after lunch on Tuesday, because everything I ate or drank hurt.  The Dr. wanted me to wait to see if the Prevacid would work.  The pain is worse at night when I lay down.  Thursday, the pain continued and I called the surgeon who then said to call my primary to rule out any kidney issues.  Stil not eating or drinking (sip here or there) and my primary said blood work normal and urine normal and then sends me back to the surgeon saying it must be something surgery related and I would need a endoscopy.  Then I go to surgeon who puts me on IV for fluids and then scheduled me for a Upper GI on Friday and sent me home with some Vicodin (which did not touch the pain).  The pain was so bad Thursday eve I call the surgeon who told me to go to ER.  I was then admitted and stayed to Friday.  After several urines, one showed a UTI, then given Cipro to TX.  The Upper GI showed I looked normal.  Blood work normal.  Discharge Friday eve.  Saturday I was able to eat a little and Sunday a little more.  Monday the pain in stomach is reduced 50%, but my back pain has increased.  The surgeon says there is nothing else she can do and if I don't improve she will have to cut me open again and do exploratory surgery.  Today I called again complaining of pain and they suggested taking alleve (but not make a habit of it).  By the way the pain comes in waves.  I was also naseausiated (sp).  That has cleared.  I still can't like I use to.  Any ideas????

I have no ideas on this,  but just wanted to lend you my support. This must be pretty scary~not knowing what's wrong and having them say they would have to open you up to do exploratory surgery! Please keep us posted on how things are going for  you~you're in my thoughts!

So have they ruled out gall bladder?  Your symptoms sound a lot like mine before I got mine removed.  I was really lucky that after only one attack like that, my surgeon saw me in the ER and offered to remove it for me, without having to endure more attacks. An ultrasound should show if there are problems there. Sorry to hear that you are in pain, I know it can be pretty scary  especially if you don't know where it is coming from

I have had the same sort of pain you are describing.. it took them going in and looking to see what was the matter and it turned out to be a bowel obstruction that they couldn't see on the scans. Thank GOD they did go in and find it... I have had THREE of these since WLS. Good luck, Emily
