Hiya folks... my first post on the Grad board and thought i'd share some of my recect issues... For starters im just over 5 months post op and have passed my goal at this point. I was a "lightweight" to start. What im finding now is that i cant seem to stop losing. Im having a horrible time getting in what i think would be enough to stop. On top of this, im finding myself in an attempt to get more calories... overeating at meals and i KNOW thats a mistake. Im scared to gain, im scared to lose, and now everyone is telling me im looking WAY to skinny which is something ive NEVER heard before in my lifetime :) Worst part of all... dont see "too skinny" in mirror at all. If anything i think the need for plastics makes me still think i look fat. I understand im only 5 months removed from surg and have spent a lifetime obese and it will take time to NOT see a fat guy in the mirror. I guess im just looking for folks who have had similar issues post op. Sorry for the rambling and prolly poor grammar.. im a terrible writer. Any thoughs??? Thanks. Brian

Brian,   I know exactly where you are coming from.  I lost to below my goal at 5 months.  I was very worried that it would continue.  BUT... it didn't.  I only lost a few more here and there over the next 6 or 7 months.  My body knew when to stop.  I also did make a consious (sp?) effort to eat more calorie laden food.  Not necessarily more food... just higher in calories.  My NUT told me to keep my calories around 1200 to stop the weight loss.  Bear in mind though that I am a woman and men's caloric intake is higher.  ;-)  (lucky dogs)  LOL   Anyway... how did I do it?   First thing was nuts.  They are high in calories but very good for you.  I grabbed a handful several times a day.  That probably helped the most.  The next thing I did was add back potatoes - baked - a few times a week.  For me that worked, but I still struggle with keeping the scale steady.  Right now I'm below my goal again.  In fact, only a few more pounds before my BMI is underweight.  But I've gone back to adding the nuts again, and just trying to not worry about it too much.  It's rare to have this problem to an extreme.  You're body will adjust.  Don't panic yet!  LOL  BUT... do call the office and speak to a nutritionist to get their recommendations.   I once saw someone recommend some of the Smoothie King higher calorie drinks.  But I know nothing about them, or their sugar content etc...  I haven't ever tried the Smoothie King.   Hope this helps somewhat!  ;-)
HUGS!!

You are absolutely correct.  That was very rude of her.  But, unfortunately he is not the first she has done that to on here.  She tends to be a little grouchy and short with people.  Must be bad to be that unhappy that you feel you have to be rude to others just needing a little support.  You know what I mean?   I noticed your surgeon was Dr. Snow.  He did my best friend's surgery.  Her surgery was about 8 years ago or so.  She lives in Monroeville, Alabama.  She has done well at keeping her weight off.   Well, anyway, I hope you have a good day.   Melissa

Wow LynW,  Who do you think you are the Board POLICE?  I think that was very rude and un called for. You should not cast stones, when you live in a glass house.  Karma is a Beast and it will Bite you! We all should have more tolerance than LynW.  We live it every day and have same situations. Have a little CLASS!!!!

Hi Brian, I am just a few lbs from my Dr.'s goal and I started to panic I was worried about this very same thing! I was also a lightweight-needed to lose 108lbs. I have lost 104lbs! When I got within a few lbs of my Dr's goal I freaked!!! I was  very worried about going below goal due to when I was younger I was always underweight-weighed 98lbs at 21yrs old when i met my husband. I gained all my weight after major thyroid problems-and other health issues-then struggled with my weight for 14 yrs. So it was always in the back of my mind because my goal was to be healthy NOT 98lbs again!!! I would suggest you see a nutritionist to determine the exact galoric intake for you specifically, also if you are not working out at a gym I would suggest to see a weight trainer to build muscle (we all know muscle weighs more than fat & skin). I agree with the poster about the more healthy snacks such as fruits& nuts- higher in calorie & its protein. I have never used the websites that help you track your calories, carbs, proteins etc...(I am not very computer illiterate) but maybe that would help guide you and keep you from panicking!(sp) I totally understand your coming to the Grads boards for this question, as even though you are  not a year out you are below goal and I am sure thought the people here would be able to help you with maintaining!! I am sorry I couldn't be of more help, but wanted you to know that you are not alone! There are some very friendly people over on the wls for lightweights board that might be able to answer better!  Missy PS-your post brought me out of lurkedom!!Back into hiding I go!

I don't want to start an argument, but this is the appropriate place to ask a question of those who are more than a year out.  Even if you are not one of them.
