Frozen dinners
How healthy are the lean cusine, healthy-choice, south-beach, etc. frozen dinners? I have been buying the ones that are between 200-300 calories and eating them for lunch and dinner. I am trying to stay under 1200 cal/day. Are they good for me? Will I eventually lose weight like this?
I have increased water and exercise as well.
You need to watch the sodium content in many of those dinners b/c it can be fairly high. Also, some are pretty low in calories but pretty high in carbs so depending on your body type and what works for you the carbs might be an issue. I use them occasionally, but prefer to eat fresh foods rather than processed foods. If you work then using them at the office is a great, easy way to get a decent meal rather than vending machine food, but then maybe try ending your day with something else instead of eating them 2x's a day. That's fantastic that you've upped your water intake and exercise! How much weight are you trying to lose???

Lean Cusine does have a low carb line but you have to search among the normal Lean Cuisines to find them. As mentionned the sodium is VERY high in all the frozen dinners so if you have a problem with high BP or water retention they are not for you. I find the dinners very handy on my days at work because I just grab one from the freezer and run.
I search through all the brands (including the red box Stouffers) to find the ones with the highest protein/lowest carb content. I think most of the WW, LC, and HC taste weird and the meat is "strange." but my DH travels often for work and sometimes I resort to them for dinner when I don't want to cook just for myself.
My favorites by far are Stouffer's stuffed peppers and mini meatloafs. If I'm indulging, I sometimes get the salisbury steak and mac and cheese (maybe WW) and add a veggie, the WW tuna casserole, or one of the chicken enchilada ones LC I think.
I don't use frozen dinners much because even at 18 months out I get that stuffed feeling about 3/4 of the way through them.
The South Beach are very high protein/lo carb but there is something in them that doesn't ever agree with my pouch....maybe a soy power????

I agree that you have to keep an eye on the sodium content, but I eat the lean cuisines often and I love the South Beach pizzas. My favorite lean cuisines are the spa ones with whole grains. I forget what its called but its like a chicken stir fry with whole wheat noodles and veggies, I have alot of those.

I swear by the Lean Cuisine Spa Meals in the white boxes! Most are about 6 oz, and they don't have any artificial ingredients and meat fillers...it's real meat! South Beach, Healthy Choice, and WW can't hold a candle to them! I'm about 4yrs. out and they are perfectly portioned, sometimes I even have to push the last few bites. They have some low carb options in the line, but all the rices and pastas are whole grain and I haven't had one with more than like 230 cals...many are under 200. I don't have any sodium issues, but they're much better than most others in that dept and I think they really taste great. I stock up when they go on sale and keep some at work. I find that if you're busy, they're great, healthful options to the drive thru and guilt-free! My son is 6 and even he likes them!
