HI everyone~ Does anyone know of the recommended number of carbs to be consumed in a day?  I am two years out and lately have been on the high side...but I don't know the low side. Thanks in advance for the help! Anjanette

I have found that everyone is so different on this issue. Some need to do low carb due to PCOS or other health related issues. I tend to go a little higher on my carbs b/c of my work out schedule~I need that fuel to burn, but I do try to keep them the good, health carbs. You need to decide what works best for you and what amount you are easily able to maintain your weight at. There have been times when I've over done it on crackers (I LOVE Wheat Thins, LOL) and I will see a few pounds creep back  on if I let myself eat those bad carbs too often.

thanks so much for your reply!  I try to stay at about 60, but find when the crackers calling (I too love the wheat thins and those dam**d little goldfish crackers!!!) then that goes out the door.  I am not sure which exactly works better....I guess a little trial and error..... Have a wonderful day!! Anjanette

Hey neighbor!  There's a suport group coming up next Thursday, the 26th, at 6:00 at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View.  It's in the cafeteria in the very back in a meeting room.  Jodi, the nutritionist, is always there and willing to help with this kind of stuff.  We'd love to see you there!

Hi Terry~ Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question!!  I am always looking for a new support group.  My home group meets on the second Wednesday of the month in Palo Alto (I live in SJ) but it is geared to mostly preops and newbies.  Does the Mt. View group have  some "graduates" that attend? I would love to be able to meet a nut that will actually answer my questions!! Is there a fee to attend the group if I didn't have surgery at El Camino? Thanks for the info....I will put it on the calendar and maybe see you there! Have a great evening! Anjanette

The support group does not charge a fee.  It's a pretty active group of people too.  We have some long term post ops, some newly post ops, and some pre ops.  It's a fun group and we do activities and have guest speakers.  The leader is the bariatric nurse, Karen.  You can email her to be added to the reminder list at [email protected]

My surgeon has his patients on under 45 gms of carbs per day as a guideline. I've been on that since my first year post op and try to follow that pretty closely. He did specify "good carbs" so with those I can have a bit more.
