Hi, I'm three years out and have gained back 10 lbs all of a sudden.  Is this normal?

cfj : From what I've read and heard a rebound of 10 - 15 pounds gained is very common a few years post op.  Most of us farther out can eat more and often can tolerate more, so it is very easy to fall into bad habits and gain weight!  It takes work to keep off the weight farther out.     How suddenly are you talking?  weeks? months?    More than likely it's normal rebound gain, but if you all of the sudden are able to eat  much more than before, you may want to have your wls surgeon evaluate you for a staple line disruption, or other mechanical problems.  Good luck, DeeAnn R   3 yrs 4 mo post op ( and about 10 lbs up from lowest weight)

Thanks for the reply.  I believe it's relaxed diligence.  Bummer....hard to stay all motivated when the hunger comes back.  Time to start again tho.

Rebound is something that is common in alot of people at 2-3yrs out mostly b/c like you said~we become more relaxed, can eat more and different things and its hard work to be "good" all the time. I just keep track daily and when  I noticed a small gain I try to jump on it right away so that 10lbs doesn't turn into 50lbs.

It's not  "normal" although some do have some rebound. The farther out we go our bodies become more adapted to our surgery, absorbing more and holding on to calories. Check to see if you've gone back to any old habits: drinking with meals, grazing, how's your water intake and exercise? Check fitday.com to see where you're having trouble. Sometimes we get back into an old habit and it doesn't take much to put on a few pounds. To lose the 10 before they become 15 or 20, get back to basics, small portions, lots of water and exercise and protein forward meals.
