Greetings to all of you, I've been away from the board for too long. It's been a rough couple of weeks. Thanks to Hotwheels Queen for checking in with me and stressing that there are those thinking of me. I have my big appointment tomorrow with the GBS doctor regarding my mal-absorbtion of my medications. I've struggled with this issue for two years, have horrible insomnia, anxiety, depression along with my increase in symptoms of my Lupus and Fibromyagia....after pleading with my doctor, I finally made headway with his nurse, who contacted the center and got this appointment set for me.  I just want to thank this website, and those that took an interest in my post about insomnia and my "suspicions" that I was not absorbing my meds. When both my doctors ignored my cries for help in this matter, the wonderful people on this site did not!! You never let me down and am SO thankful that I started back up with my posting, etc.  I am suffering rebound, was able to get off 10 lbs. doing the Time Out then Plateau buster, but  the past two days have pretty much been a bust. Have to say I felt horrible when I ate the carbs so at least that symptom is still active. I'm sure it's due to being so anxious about this appointment tomorrow. I am praying that this doctor (bariatric center) will give me the liquid form of medications and I can put these horrible symptoms behind me and get back to the business of living! Thanks again to all of you! I'll post tomorrow when I get back from my appointment. (1:00 p.m.) Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers, Sincerely, Laurie (yogawoman)

Hello to all, I think my appt. went okay and I do think they will find the answers I need. They didn't immediately put me on compounded medicine which was a disappointment. The doctor gave me recommendations on upping my Ultracet. He said I was on a very low dose. I will meet with my other doctor next Thursday and tell him what the GBS doc said about mal-absorb. issues. He and his assistant said they would look into alternative meds for me. They didn't see Tramadol in the PDR in liquid form. So, I guess I have made progress but not as fast as I'd hoped. I'll keep you all posted....if anyone knows of medications for pain or insomnia issues that can be compounded into liquid forms, please share that information with me and I will pass it along to my doctor here. Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, Laurie

GOOD AFTERNOON,  do you take predisone for your Lupus and Fibromyagia..??? my sister in law had this also and she was on high doses of it as well as vicodin for the pain,, made her a little out of it at times but seemed to help and for the insomnia issues i know when she did not rest and get the sllep her body needed, her lupus kicked in, i know you know all this probably already, but are they giving you any thing for insomnia?   have you tryed overcounter tylonel (sp) sllep aid one, i use them on occassion when i cant sleep, they work and i know we rny'ers can take them?? just a thought,  You are in our prayers for a quick answer from the DR and hope they call you before next apt..

Hi! I've had to take prednisone many many times but am not on it right now. I try and stay away from the steroids. I know as I get older I'll have to rely on them more but a long time ago when I was first diagnosed, I just happen to work with a woman who had lupus (Ethel) and she said, "Laurie, just try to not start right away on the steriods. You'll need them as you get closer to 60ish and if you're already taking them in your 30, and 40s, you'll only  need to increase the doses...and they are sooo hard on your bones, and eyes." So, I've listened to her. I did make an appt. to see my Lupus doc for next Thursday and asked that the GBS doctor call him and try and educate him on the GBS issues. The GBS doc said that capsules defineately don't dispurse all of the medication because you need stomach acid to break down the capsule material. So, that was interesting. He said they are just finding out that some meds aren't affected while others are. He said his throxin patients needed NO change in doses after the surgery but that the patients that had to take cumidin did have malabsortion issues. I guess medicines get absorbed in different parts of the intestine just like our vitimins and minerals do. Makes sense. I feel like a made a little progress today but time will tell. As for the insomnia he wouldn't give me anything and said he'd talk to Dr. Stern about it. I also asked if I could meet with their Psy.D they have on staff so that my anxiety issues can be addressed. Ohhhh, I'm soooo tired of doctors... Well, I have to try and rest now. Thanks so much for being here! Laurie
