It seems like it's dairy that's causing the issue - along with my sneaking in a cup of wild cherry diet pepsi which I know my pouch doesn't lik.  I begin the day with a protein shake mixed with milk.  Later in the morning I have cottage cheese and tomaotoes or cottage cheese with fruit.  I've done this for months, years and never had issues but now my  tummy is so sensitive it hurts afterwards.  Wonder if taking some of the lactaid tabs would help?  Any ideas?  Been going on for 2 weeks now.  In the beginning I thought it was the watermellon I was eating but after cutting that back, I still have the issues- thus the lactose intolerance thought. I'd apprecaite your thoughts and wisdom please. Sandy

Sandy -- sorry for your troubles! I think that you should contact your WL surgeon but I highly suspect that he will refer you to a gastrointeroligist!!!  You may save time but talking directly to your doctor's nurse who may be able to guide you towards the next step without having to wait the duration of seeing your PCP.   That said, if you feel that your health is not in jeopardy in any way, you can talk to your WL surgeons nurse about lactose intolerance.   You can buy Lactaid over the counter (OTC) and see if it helps.  Or just cut out any and all dairy for the next 2 weeks to see if you improve.  HOWEVER, in the meantime however you decide to proceed, please contact both your WLS and your PCP regarding your medical issues. GET WELL SOON!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

I'm 24 yrs post op.. the first go around I was ok with milk then I had to have scar tissue removed..bad bad gerd.. I could spit acid standing up...  Please note this people I almost lost my esphogus...  Anyway I don't and can't do anything dairy now.. Milk was my life for the 20 some yrs after the first surgery..Now I do what I can to get in the calcium mostly thru pills ...I moved and still brought a box of my fat clothes.(my favorites ) why I'm telling this I don't know ..I'm the lowest I've ever been I do have times of great fluid retention but it comes off easily when I cut the salt.(watermelon..bad watermelon). You would think at $6.00 dollars a melon I wouldn't eat them.  I'm now growing them and freezing.. next best thing to candy for me.. I'm also shameful at eatting almonds... I have been trying the soy milks and its not been to bad.. Good luck to all.. Wen

Do you still have your gall badder?  I had similiar problems being out about 18 months.  My gall baldder was tested and it was fine.  My pouch was seeming to reject carbs that I always had no problems with.  This lasted about 2 months and then cleared up on its own.  I ended up living off of tums for those couple of months which seemed to help.  I would call your WLS before taking anything and see what they may think it is.  Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts and replies.  I have my 2 yr post op appt in two weeks so I'll be sure to mention it.  Even with the sensitive tummy, it's still alot better than carrying the fat around!
