Hey Val.... On the caffiene from ...if you were fluid deficient, I could see where the slight diuretic effect would make a difference....but you know....as a general rule, we are fluid plentyful... but baby....(smiling real big....) vit C is a diuretic too.....that is why the kool aid and crystal lite get you going....If I eat a spoonfull of grapefruit before I go to bed, I'm up all night,.....(thus the grapefruit diet) it's the vit c yoga would be fun.....green tea settles good for me...i make it weak by the picture....woudl you please send some cool air down highway 10!!! this heat is killing me russ

I really think at a year, 2 or more out it doesn't matter anymore.  So many think the early on rules are meant for life.  As new post-ops a little diuretic makes a BIG difference but now, not so much.  Moderation is the key.................

I'm not sure on the caffeine issue but I drink about a pot a day with cream and splenda, everyday, just to keep my energy up.  If I don't, I am sleepy and groggy all day!  However, I am only 15-months postop and have gone below my surgeons goal weight so it is not keeping me from losing weight, I do know that.  So, though I have heard many different things about the caffeine, I am tending not to worry too much about it, lol! Not sure when you had your last blood work up but be concerned about that sleepy, groggy thing. You may be B12 deficient. Might want to get that checked. I am now taking shots once a month. I am anemic as well.

I read an article on the caffeine-diuretic thing a while back.  Caffeine is a WEAK diuretic.  The studies used to make a big deal about the diuretic effect were done in the 1920's with rather small sample sizes (I believe one had only sixty-something participants).  I personally believe the diuretic effect is highly exaggerated. Drink plenty of fluids and review what your weight loss surgeon instructed and make your own decision.  You certainly don't need to double your intake, though that information is frequently repeated.
