what % of grads regain?
From a 10 yr study, 80% keep most of their weight loss after 10 years. 20% regain at least to a 30 BMI and of those some regain to a 35 BMI and of those a few regain their total lost weight back. So you have a very excellent chance of keep most of your lost weight off for 10 or more years. The 80% experience some regain, but not as much as 50% of their lost weight. I belevie most people start out with BMI around 45 to 60. Remaining below 30 BMI is a great sucess for me. I know for some people weighing more than 150 would be upsetting, but my improvement and quality of life depends more on the state of my health than my BMI.
I am 17 months out and have lost 2 pounds in the past 4 months! So I guess I'm done. I'm happy where I am and if I gain 2-3 pounds I will not rest until I get it back off. I plan to weigh every single day of my life forever, and I will do whatever it takes never to go back where I was.
I think if we begin to relax our guard, and forget that if we eat anywhere near to our old habits, we will be right back where we were before surgery. So I am planning to work hard to stay on track and keep up with the better habits I've practiced for the past 17 months.
I also want to say my mother had RNY 31 years ago and she weighs 16 pounds more than her lowest post-op weight. I think that's pretty good.
