Cristal,     Nice  to  meet  you ...  Have  you   found  a  Dr  yet  and  sat  down  and   talked  about  the  different  surgeries  and  what   would  be  best  for  you ?    Personally  RNY   was   what  I  choose  only  after alot of   research  and   talking  to  4  different  Dr's  .  All  the  Dr's  were  in  agressment  for  Rny  for  me  ...  I  am  21  months  out  I  have  reached   goal  and I  am  192  lbs   lighter ...   I   know  just  a lot  of  lapbanders  that  are   just  as  succesful ..  I  believe everyone  needs  to   find  out  what  is   best  for  them... Then  you  have  to  stay  committed and  stay  on  the  journey  to  be  successful ..  I  would  suggest  that  you   attend  some  of  the  WLS    support  groups  in  your  area  and  learn  all  you  can  ...If  there  is  any  thing  I   can  share  with  you on  your   journey   pleasee  feel   free  to  contact  me ..  Wishing  you  the  best ... Tami

YOU NEED TO RESEARCH AND RESERARCH TILL YOU FIND WHAT YOU FELL BEST FITS YOUR NEEDS. I HAD THE RNY CAUSE MY DR. TOLD ME YOU LOSE MORE WEIGHT WITH THE RNY. AND I DIDN'T WANT THE OPTION TO BE ABLE TO HAVE THE BAND FAIL ME. THE BAND IS GOOD FOR SOME PEOPLE THAT MAYBE SOMEDAY WANT TO HAVE IT REMOVED FOR REASONS OF THERE OWN, SOME WANT TO GET PREGNAT, SOME LIKE OZZY OSBORN WIFE WANTS HERS TAKEN OFF CAUSE SHE IS TIRED OF NOT BEING ABLE TO EAT THE WAY SHE WANTS, GO FIGURE. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR DICISION

You need to talk with your surgeon about what reasonable expectations are for both surgeries.  If you have more weight to lose, the RNY has a faster and greater weight loss.  But the band is less invasive.  And what kind of eater are you?  Will portion control--the key element of the band--address your needs?  How long have you been obese?  That makes a difference as well.  If you let your surgeon know your concerns, maybe he/she can help guide you in this decision.
