ALLI

In my past obese life I DID use the prescription form of Alli which for me was XENICAL.  This stuff is NASTY!  You do have anal discharge, leaks and if not quick to the bathroom can have a very embarassing moment of having a nasty BM in your pants.  I have been caught on several occassions by just getting into the bathroom in just the nick of time....if it were not for holding in my butt cheeks nice and tight!  I don't want to sound like I did no****ch my fat intake because I did....I did not lose much weight only about 15 lbs but once you stop the program the weight comes right back on.  If it were up to me I would tell EVERYONE to stay away from this stuff.  I would rather DUMP than go through the side effects of the Xenical/Alli.  The prescription form in very expensive and insurance companies will moniter you very closely.  At the end of the three month period you are re-evaluated and the insurance co will decide if they are going to continue to cover you again.  This medication is only short term and cannot be taken forever.  My Dr. told me I was going to be on it at the most 1.5 years.  I eventually stopped it myself because I was getting tired of the side effects.  I would rather have 10 WLS than to use this stuff again.  Now, remember, this is only MY opinion, but if you have had WLS I WOULD CHECK WITH YOUR DR. first before taking anything over the counter.  You could do more harm than good.

See, I totally agree with you....I would rather DUMP than have anal leakage.....even now that I have "put on a few"  Back to basics is for me!!!!!

I know three people currently using Alli, one who has had WLS.  None of these people are having any anal leakage at all.  Alli is a lower dosage of Xenical which means with a low fat diet it should not cause problems.  There are those who are looking for a miracle pill (which everyone on this site would certainly understand).  However if they want to still eat all of those delicious greasy food then this pill is not for that dieter.  There are people who have WLS and still eat as before and then can't understand why they dump.  And yet some still eat poorly.  I'd think anal leakage maybe enough of a deterent from eating high fatty foods, but on the other hand, maybe not.

THE ONE WHO HAD WLS HOW IS THE PILL DOING FOR THEM.  I'VE PUT ON WEIGHT AND FEEL LIKE TRYING ANYTHING ABOUT NOW.

She started ALLI three weeks ago.  Only takes it with higher fat meals and has lost 6 lbs.  She tries to be very careful with her eating as a WLS patient so she does not indulge often but has found that this summer with the holiday and her vacation time she needed that extra help.  It is working for her and her doctor knows she is taking it.

I've been taking Alli for almost three weeks (I think) and I've only had the oily discharge problem once, and that happened when I went nuts with the Fritos one night.  After that experience, I've been much better about what I'm eating, especially because I don't want that to happen again.  I think it's kind of a good thing, though, this fear keeps me away from chips, which are frequently my downfall when I am trying to eat healthier.

I'm thinking if you took both Alli and Ambien, life would be really interesting. (In case you missed this thread.) Jeanie
