I was able to find it, hope this may help someone who is wanting to lost a little and not want to go back to drinking protein drinks. Donna Basically the Liver shrinking diet is a low sodium diet! The point it to detox the body. The class I took cost me $25 but I am here to share for free. This is a diet that was formulated at MY doctors office along with his dietitian, he has been doing GBS here in my area about 3 years and he has learned a lot and changed how he does things over the years. This diet is meant to last 4 to 6 weeks. When I had my surgery 2 ½ years ago he did not make anyone do this diet but he seemed to find it was easier to get to the surgery site if the liver was not swollen and fatty. I hope this makes sense, there are 23 pages in the diet hand out. I will try to condense it but if you can email me if you want for more information and I will see if I can put it in a file... I don’t know how to do that but I will try because I am sure people would like to read all of it. This diet is intended to 1. limit sodium intake 2. limit fat intake 3. Limit the amount of calories eaten per day. Don’t forget this diet was made for PRE op patients and I will sometimes forget to convert to POST op patients. Most Americans get more then 10,000 mg of sodium a day, the recommended is 4,000 and on this diet you are limited to 2,000 a day! I am on maintenance and have been at goal for ever a year so this is not exact for everyone I have a schedule to eat 6 times a day Carbohydrates- 137 grams- 54% Protein - 60 grams - 24% Fat-25 grams-22% Calories-1013 1. Do not go out to eat, eat at home so you know what you are eating 2. Do not eat any processed foods. This includes ham, bacon, American cheese slices. Etc 3. Avoid anything in a can, box, bag or a bottle, these are all loaded with sodium. High fat is also in most of these foods. Examples are canned veggies, frozen pizza, canned soups, salad dressings, TV dinners ETC. Added to this list is olives, cheese of any type. No type of smoked meats, no organ meat. No caffeine (sorry) you can only eat one whole egg a day, but as much egg whites as you want.

thanks Deann, the diet was pretty easy, I called it the little house on the prairie diet . the worse part was no cheese or canned tuna, that is a daily staple. Donna

That's too funny "little house on the prairie"  -  I do love cheese and tuna - but I guess other fish is okay as long as it is fresh ?  I love tilapia .

I hope you don't mind me chiming in here, but I have to set the record straight.  My surgeons, all 3 of them, because I have moved... Dr. Karl Byrne, the #4 RNY surgeon in the world Dr. Ninh Nguyen, #2 lap RNY surgeon in the world Dr. Allen Whitgrove (Carnie Wilson's doc) #1 RNY surgeon in the world, and he will be doing my 2nd ERCP surgery (clogged bile duct again) Anyway, I asked all of these doctors because my liver is enlarged due to the bile duct, and I asked them about shrinking the liver prior to surgery, and all 3 of them said to me, it is a myth, you cannot shrink the liver in a matter of a few weeks before any surgery, it takes at least 4-6 months to "shrink" the liver.   What you are doing in that time is decreasing your liver fat, basically making your liver go from a fatty liver to a healthy liver, which is why we have this surgery in the first place, so they all echoed the same thing Dr. Byrne had told me back in 05 when I asked him about it because I read it here on the boards.  He laughed at me and said, "Hogwash, that is a myth".  Doctors do it to get their patients on a healthy eating schedule and you cannot shrink a liver....but you decrease the fat, which is why you are having the surgery in the first place, so don't bother. I asked Dr Whitgrove about it last month when I had a 2nd opinion about my ERCP for the clogged bile duct, because the liver specialists here don't want to do the surgery again, last October, had it the first surgery because of a clogged bile duct...no gallbladder since 94.   The liver specialists here think they did such a great job the first time, that no way it can be clogged again....yeah, right.  Its scar tissue, but they just don't want to do the operation again, because it is such a hard operation to do.  So they referred me back to Dr. Whitgrove in LaJolla, and he will do the surgery, open up my old stomach and the liver guys there will do the bile duct surgery, and open back up the bile duct, which we think is clogged with scar tissue. Anyway, you guys, don't buy into that myth.....it will help you to be able to stick to the post op diet, but if your doc says to you so he can see into your cavity when doing the surgery, call him on his bluff.  He is out right lying.....the CO2 will sufflate you to make it so they can see even if your liver were 5x its normal size....so I just hate it when I see people on here suffering through awful diets, when no need to. Yes, we do need to detox, but milk thistle is best. ;)   Hope I didn't offend anyone, but I have asked all 3 docs, *****ally are the best in the country/world at this surgery, and they all concured.  They ahve over 60 years combined experience, so that was reassuring.  Plus we all know Dr. Whitgrove thru Carnie Wilson.  He is a sweet guy, and a little arrogant, but hey, aren't all surgeons?? he flat out told me he was the top surgeon in the world, and he meant it....well, he is though, so better to have the best do my surgery, LOL Have a happy holiday week!  Hope I didn't offend anyone....I really did not want to butt in, but I get upset about this issue, since I have had many a discussion with the docs about this, because I read it on here all the time. Love, Deb

I dont know what number my doctor stands at but this diet does seem to work for his patience.  they all lose at least 20 pounds and the surgeons says he CAN see better.  I am not going to tell him he is wrong.  this diet does get people on a schedule and cuts out all the sodium and excess fat. its not a bad diet and its pretty simple to follw and you don't have to spend extra money,  Part of his diet may just show the patient that they can follow a diet and they feel better too.  this surgeon has a great before and after support group and after 3 years he still makes sure all my labs are in good order. I dont think this is an awful diet.  I am truly sorry you feel that I am misleading people.

No Babe, I totally don't think YOU are misleading anyone.  If your doctor says to do it, then do it.  It will at least get you used to eating less, and probably will help with the first month of mental problems that people have trouble with.  I know I had bad head hunger, and something like a pre op diet, would have helped and at least helped my caffeine withdrawals. Your doc does what he feels is best for his patients and you guys have to do what he says or else he won't treat you.

I just wanted to pass along info, not meant to offend anyone, but just to offer the truth :) Have a blessed week, and please don't take what I said as a personal attack, totally not meant to be!! Thanks for replying,  sorry if I hurt your feelings, not my intentions, I feel really badly that you think I thought you were wrong.  I don't, just giving you the medical facts.  And I also would NEVER tell my doc he was wrong, but you can ask him about it if you like....but its water under the bridge, so it doesn't matter at this point.....however, those who are new, might just want to ask or bring it up if they want to.

Each to his own!! :) No hard feelings, okay? Thanks, Deb
