Hello friends,

I’m nearly 4 years out and lately (in the last 3 or so months) I’ve been feeling extremely tired in the middle of the afternoon.   Can someone please tell me what vitamins and supplements we’re supposed to take?

I seem to recall that we are also supposed to take stuff like b-12 sublinguals, calcium and Iron supplements…but I can’t recall what kind (seems like there are different forms of Iron for example) or in what quantities.

HELP! Please. I hate feeling like I did when I was MO.

Cyber-hugs,

Christian

Hi Christian... Sounds like you may be low on your iron.  I would get a blood test done by your Dr.  that will rule it out one way or another.  Are you getting in enough protien? I take I mulit once a day, I biotin a day, I also have a b-12 shot once a month.  I know I should take my calcium but I don't.  I"m 4 1/2 years out as well.  Hope this helps... Tammy

I am 2 1/2 years out and I was having the same problems for the past three months.  I am in the car for about 5 hours a day and I found myself having to pull over on the Thruway to sleep for 15 minutes.  It has literally been exhausting.  I went back to my doctor and my blood work showed that my iron had dropped dramatically in the last six months.  I started taking an Iron Supplement from a local health store and a higher dosage of the B-12 (spray instead of the sublingual I was using).  I actually think I feel better but I'll know more on the 9th when I go back to get my blood test read again.  I hope you feel better ---

I've had the same problem with getting tired in the middle of the day.  I attributed it to my insomnia.  But since I started a modified TO, getting more protein and taking my vitamins again, it's much better.  I take a good multi purpose from Trader Joes (the woman's formula which wouldn't help you-- ), iron daily and sub-linqual B12 twice a week.My multi has a lot of calcium, so I don't take addiitonal. But the best advice is to have labs done and see what you need.  Good luck! Michele

Christian, I am just about three years out and have felt great up until the last six weeks when I have been so tired I could have cried. I am supposed to have brachioplasty on July 12 but when they pulled the blood work my iron was in the basement. I am seeing my doc tomorrow and am hoping we can get things back on track by the 12th. This is a down-to-the-bone weariness that I can tell you I have honestly never felt in my entire life - not even when I was MO. You really need to get your blood work checked regularly, anyway. These things just pop out of nowehere according to many posts that I have read here. Good luck! Judi

Hi Christian, I would ask for an iron panel, not just Hemoglobin.  Including ferritin (iron storage) TIBC, Iron saturation and iron serum. I started having low iron problems at about two years post-op.  I had a difficult time getting a diagnosis, as my Hemoglobin was normal.  My ferritin was depleted, causing the symptoms.  I'm over five years post-op and see a Hematologist for my post-op low iron issues.  She said that eventually all post-ops develop the problem.  We are not able to absorb enough orally anymore.  I get IV iron infusions every 6-8 months. It's a good idea to keep copies of your labs.  Watch for any changes.  This is my vitamin schedule: Centrum -2 a day Upcal D (calcium citrate w/ vitamin D3) Super B Complex Sub Lingual B-12 every other day B12 shot one a month Omega 3 Vitamin C Biotin Zinc I try to get a protein shake in here and there too.  HTH
