Had gastric bypass in 2002 need some advice from anyone please
Hi,
I am 27 years old, I had gastric bypass surgery in June 2002. I lost about 85 pounds but have gained about 50 back, I have just completly fell off the track. I know there has got to be someone out there who has been through what I am going through or have been there already. I am going to a diet doctor and I am getting ready to start my prescription for adipex a diet pill, I am only taking this short term to get back on track and I want to know if anyone has done this before. I just feel this is my last option to get back on track. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
Jenn
Hi Jenn,
I had surgery in July 2003 and lost 125 pounds and have gained back 25 pounds and never made it to goal. I started out at 300, got down to 175 and now weigh 200. My goal is 150 and I am determined to get down to that goal. I have seen post after post on this subject and it all boils down to working the tool again and getting back on track with eating. I am not one of those who will shoot you down for taking pills. Do what you have to do to get back on track, but remember, you can't stay on pills forever. It is up to us. We have to decided whether or not to put that chip or whatever in our mouths. We can do this!!!!!!

Jenn,
I also had surgery in 2002, in February. I lost 110lbs and gained back about 80-85. I have lost 25 of it over the last year by eating more protein and less calories. I seem to lose a few lbs, then gain a few and hold for awhile. I have made progress, but I too feel like getting a diet pill or something. I don't though. For me it would be giving into old habits and even if it helped me lose a little I would be right back where I started once I stopped taking it. When I really buckle down and eat low fat, low cal protein, stop drinking with my meals, and avoid carbs and sugar I lose weight. I just have trouble maintaining that for very long. I'll go a week or so and then binge on all the sugar and carbs I can hold for a few days. It's a horrible cycle. I hope you can get it under control. I am assuming you lost the 85lbs within the first 6 months? I know that's about where I was at 6 months out, then I stalled and my hunger came back. I lost the additional weight by following the Atkins diet and exercising every morning. Once I stopped working out and started eating carbs, the weight came back on slowly but steadily. Now I am just over 200 and I hate it. I can't fit into the cute clothes I bought while I was at goal. I am trapped in a fat body again. I don't have much advice on this one. My surgeon is the one *****commended the Time Out plan that I am sure you have read about on this forum. I saw my regular doctor, but he just said "calories in need to be less than calories out". Yeah, thanks for the new info. It's a constant struggle for me. I hope you find something that works and that you can maintain your short term loss and get to your goal. I just wanted you to know you aren't alone so you don't get too discouraged about the amount of gain. I know you are probably thinking why in the world did I cut up my body for a 35 lbs weight loss. Trust me though, your pouch is still there and it does work when you follow the rules for it. Unless there is truly a mechanical problem. I had a scope done and my pouch was fine. It was that I drink with meals and eat lots of carbs. So my first suggestion is that if you haven't had a visit with your surgeon go ahead and do that. I had to pay out of pocket and drive 12 hours roundtrip, but it was worth it to know my pouch was intact. Once you get that out of the way, assuming it is still in good condition, then you can start restricting calories, eating more protein, and cutting out the carbs and sugar. It's not easy for me and I am not going to paint a pretty picture for you. It's just as bad as dieting before surgery to me. But what else can we do? Surgery was our last resort so we have to make it work. I hope you find a safe path to your goal and the support and encouragement you need here on this board maybe. Good luck.
