Complication 1 year ago - band erosion - 65lb. weight gain

A year ago, after giving birth to my son, I went in for an endoscope to find out why I was vomiting so frequently and had such pains low in my self-described "low esophagus" area.  Turns out my slastic band had eroded into my stomach and the radiologist removed it with a tool on the endoscope.  I felt so much better afterward and could eat much more regularly.  My body has grabbed onto every pound!  Add to the complication that, I was 5 months post pardum, when my husband moved out and we nearly divorced, I had post pardum depression, then once we reconciled, I had so much debt from the divorce thing, that I had to go back to working full time and put my son in daycare.  It has been a wonderful (because of my son) but miserable year for me, and I have very quickly put on 65lbs.  I feel horrid physically and now am having to retake metformin, which I was off of entirely.  I am having all these weird symptoms - chest pain, etc.  I don't know if its anxiety or what ... I have no energy.  Now I have no time free to go to all the doctor's appointments I need to go to in order to get this straightened out.  Has anybody else had band erosion and if so, have they had the band replaced?  I am going to approach my surgeon to ask if this is a possibility.  I want to loose this weight, but feel that I have lost the "tool" that this surgery offered me, and was working for me, until it became a problem.  Thanks in advance for your help.

My band is currently eroding and will have to be removed once it gets to a certain point.  My surgeon wants to do a procedure afterwards to make the stoma smaller.  Here is the information he gave me on it: http://arcadiahill.com/egd/egd.html DeeDee

I had a band slip late 2006 and had the band repositioned in early 2007.  I was sick from 2/07 to now and had surgery 3 weeks ago to have the band removed and convert to vertical sleeve gastrectomy (vsg).  My doc said that I had a hole in my stomach and this technically was an erosion.  I know another bandster who also recently had to have the band removed due to erosion.  Although this is a relatively rare complication, it happens.  Talk to your surgeon about another wl procedure like vsg.  See what he/she suggests.   As for your horrible year, it sure sounds like you had a rough time and I hope things are much improved for you.  BUT, as former obese people, we must learn that we can never make excuses for our poor eating choices.  Our current and future health is in OUR hands and no one else's.  I am very concerned that you are having chest pains, loss of energy and that your diabetes has flared up.  PLEASE make the time to see a doc about these symptoms.  Your child and family need you to be healthy and present for them.  No more excuses for neglecting YOU.  Good luck.
