Hello all. I'm just a newbie...11 weeks out, and I first posted this on the regular RNY board, but I know I liked the responses on there, and found it helpful to see what everyone else was doing. Maybe it will help you too!!! So just trying to see how we all "compare"...  1. I'm 11 weeks out and have lost 56 pounds so far,  2. about 330 pounds now (reveal what you're comfortable with),  3. and I eat 1000-1200 calories a day. 4.  Every other day, I allow myself about 200 calories of junk (don't dump from sugar by the way), so this junk is typically ice cream, water ice, or low fat potato chips. 5. I don't exercise, but know that I should and am disappointed in myself regarding that. 6. My plan calls for 83 grams of protein daily. PLEASE fill in your own 1-6 and reply. THANKS!!!! -Beth

Hi, Beth!  Congrats on taking an important step in your recovery from obesity!! 1.  I'm almost 3 years out (as of 8/18) and have lost between 125 and 130 pounds (depending on the day!  lol) 2.  I started out at 278 and now weigh between 150 and 158 (again, depending on the day) 3.  I try to stay around 1600 calories but some days go as high as 2000 or 2100. 4.  I allow myself lf chips once a week and keep it to 1 oz; I don't know if I dump from too much sugar - have never tried and don't plan to!!   5.  I exercise 6 days a week - 3 days 60 min. on the tread; 3 days 30 min. on the tread and 30 min. light weights.  I take Mondays "off" to clean house and I count that as my exercise. 6.  My surgeon says 60 g of protein a day but I think that's low so I try to stay between 80-110. Good luck!!

Hugs,
Connie

Congratulations on your loss.  However, you need to realize that you are letting a golden opportunity slip through your fingers.  Even if you don't dump you need to be taking this time to change your eating habits, fat intake, sugar consumption.  At only 11 weeks you should be concentrating on your protein intake and carbs from fruits and veggies.  If you feel the need for something cold and sweet do yourself a favor and buy some sugar free pops/Fudgecycles .  Take the time to read the posts of many grads who never dumped and are now fighting those last 50lbs.   Just a thought.

Hi Beth, 1. I am 2 yrs 8 months out 2. I started at 242 at 5'6 and weight 159 now (lowest was 149) size 6 pants shirt L 3. Calories range from 1000-1400 4. Stay away from carbs (or else I gain) 5. Work out 4x week  3-4 days 1 hour pilates and 1 hr weights & cardio (or else I gain) 6. Protein varies from 70-95  I am just trying to be helpful and I hope you don't take my words as flaming that's not my style!  My suggestion is to take advantage of the honeymoon period. Don't eat junk at all and work your tool. It gets very difficult once that period ends. Just think how much you would lose if you skipped the 200 calories of junk. I didn't add carbs back into my diet until I lost 80% of my weight (that's what my doc ordered) and when I did I started to gain. I do eat some carbs now ...things like 1/2 pc of whole wheat bread or a few chips and salsa on a special occassion. Now I may be more carb sensitive than others but I do think you should wait until you maximized your weight loss now!! Good Luck to you!!!!!

Not sure how it is relevant to "compare" the early stage lifestyle vs. the 1+ year lifestyle...but OK... 1.  I am 278 weeks out and have lost 152 pounds so far. 2.  About 126# and I am comfortable with it. 3.  I eat 1400 calories per day. 4.  In nearly 6 complete years post op I have never dumped...nor have I eaten a potato chip...too many calories, no return on investment. 5.  I exercise 6 days/week and know I should and know that feeling disappointed allows negative messaging and negative behaviors to perpetuate...doing something about the dissapointment is empowering...and has incredible health benefits too! 6.  Counting protein grams was not in vogue when I had my WLS...counting calories was the recommendation.

Junk every other day??? Are you kidding me??? We are total food/sugar addicts and one of the benefits was to at least not eat the junk for my first year out.  Don't kid yourself about this pattern, if this problem creeps back for most of us LATER, what do you think will happen if you don't even interrupt this cycle?? Do yourself a big favor, you made a great commitment with your surgery, at least attempt the no sugar for a few months.  There are SOOOOO many sugar free alternatives that you can still have goodies without the sugar. It is a good substitute but since it is not sugar I find it doesn't make me want more of it (unlike sugar products do).

1.  I am 18 months out and have lost 100lbs 2.  118 to 120  3.  Not sure about the calorie intake, I follow the WW meal plan, this helped me when I was trying to lose the last few lbs and since I have lost more and am currently below my goal. 4.  I stay away from junk food as that is what got me in the position to need WLS. I do every now and then have  a few chips but I promise you it is very limited. 5.  I don't exercise like I should since I have been putting in alot of overtime.  But when I go to the stores I park as far out as possible.  6.  I eat about 60 grams or so of protein.  When I was 11 weeks out I was still on a strict post op diet.  My surgeon has one of the strictest post op diets I have ever seen.  His explanation to me my new pouch was like a baby's tummy and it takes time to heal.  I was on clear liquids for the first two weeks and them full liquids till week six.  I was them on  pureed and soft foods until week 12 and even then it was very strict.  I never tempted sugar until I was a good year out.  Didn't like the feeling when I did eat it.  Just last night I had about three bites of a birthday cake and I think it was two bites to many.  I had to just go on to bed.   I know others said to take advantage of your so called honeymoon period, I know after a year and half I still have food demons that try to sneak up on me and still have to really watch what I eat.

My name is Diana, and it's been 20 months since my DS weight loss surgery.  1. I'm 20 months out, have lost 128 lbs so far 2. I started out at 248 and am about 118 lbs now, my doc wants me at 130 at least, so trying to put 12 lbs. back on 3. and I eat 2000 calories a day, more if I can lately, I've been setting a timer so that I remember to eat something every two hours. 4.  I don't dump, since I had the DS, not the RNY, but I ate real  real real carefully until I was at goal. Now, since I am trying to put weight back on, I am eating anything and everything! Well, not quite, since I am really lactose intolerant, and also sensitive to wheat products. But, I am now breaking all the rules trying to stop the weight loss. 5. I exercise, but sporatically. I walk with a friend, and do some yoga, or pilates but mostly, I just have a much more active lifestyle. I hike or ride my bike not for exercise, but for fun. 6. I strive for 90 grams of protein a day. AND, I'm adding a number 7! 7. I take my vitamins every day, and get at least 64 oz. of water! There's no messing around with those two things, our lives depend on it!

Hihi! 1. I had a DS and I am 29+ months out. I have lost 177 lubs. Still losing slowly. 2. My last weight was 171. I am 5'10", BMI is 24.5. Body fat is 19%. You didn't ask, but I'm 51. Yikes. 3. I don't have a clue how many calories I eat. I haven't tracked them for a long time. I did look back through FitDay and found a few entries last year. I was getting anywhere from 900 to 2000. That's a wide variety, eh? 4. I pretty much eat what I want, I just don't want much junk. (Not sure what the question is, so I'm guessing.) 5. I haven't exercised at all. I have some pretty severe limitations. I have been more active just in doing normal stuff that I couldn't do before I lost the weight, like gardening and shopping.

6. My goal is 125 grams of protein a day, minimum. That's my surgeon's suggestion. Jeanie
