I have been a long time follower of your posts for a long time and really enjoy your level headed perspectives on these things. I hope to approach life as sensibly someday too. For now, unfortunately, sometimes I tend to need a "gimmick" to get me motivated again. But, I DO understand what you mean...totally! Thanks! Molly

Okay I have to chime in here also as I am a t/o person, BUT my t/o  is going back to basics for me.... i do shakes AND eat protein in fact cooking up some yummy turkey right now.. I dont see but only 1 person doing the drinks, the rest of us pretty much are doing a modified (basic program) and yes even this is not a quick easy fad diet... my dr. said go back to basics drink protein drinks, then add solids., so i do that i drink them and add protein. The t/o thing is a term also used for t/out from the carbs wich cause the regain in the first place,, i personaly am doing it just to get those cravings to go away, cut out the bread, rice, sugar free candy, cookies, cheese it's, chips, etc.. and it has helped me today is day 7 and i truly bel. now i am eating like i did 4 years ago.. I think what ever works for someone, then they should stick to that, and if they feel they need to only drink protein drinks and dr. ok it. then more power to them. I am a part of a support group wich i post t/o on the board to find out how everyone is doing and to me it is for any one who is doing something to lose weight any method is welcome to post i am encouraged by anyone that can have the willpower and the stamina to lose weight,,,

Good for you Donna, I'm glad you know what won't work for you.  Wish you realized that dosen't apply to people who aren't you.   I didn't get SMO from fad diets and fasting or liquids.  I ate too much.  I love bread, pasta potatoes etc. and still do.  I realize now there will be times that I need to take a break, get in touch with my body again, even if I haven't regained, the feeling of  normalcy will occasionally lead me to a place that I will find it hard to get out of with out this "tool" of taking a break.  We all know that word "tool"  for me this is just another weapon in my arsenal. You haven't ruffled my feathers because T/O isn't for you, but your implication that I got there the way that you did or I need to do things the same as you do or that I am looking for a shorter cut does. Carla,  I feel exactly the same way! I did not yo-yo my way up to my highest weight. It was a steady climb up! Molly

My understanding of the Time Out plan was that it was NOT intended to be used as a method to drop ______ pounds (you fill in the blank), but to RESET the pouch. Along the way, you lose weight because that's just what happens. Yes, noncompliance is what brought many of us to this point.  So when you learn from this small community of people with special cir****tances that SOMEthing has worked...why not try it IF you want to?? If it's not for you, so be it. You keep on. We find our muses, inspirations and ideas from many sources. Maybe you have a meaningful conversation with your spouse/doc/parent. Maybe you have a not-so-old wardrobe of clothes in your closet that don't fit anymore. Or maybe you read an especially hyperbolic post from someone who is frustrated for......whatever reason and THAT clicks for you.   We've all been subjected to graceless and misdirected righteousness in our lives. Let's not do it to each other here. Jaysous.

A_Clearly said, "We've all been subjected to graceless and misdirected righteousness in our lives. Let's not do it to each other here."  And I say...YES!!! NO Doubt! That's why I hate feeling like I am defending my surgery in the first place. Everyone had a piece of advice that worked for them. Eventually, when I came under fire as a preop, I stopped telling everyone about it and went into the closet for a couple years. I never want to do that again.

Very well said Ladies,      I have been on the TO for 3 weeks with a total of 18 lbs lost, but most of all it cleared my mind and actually made me feel good, more energy.        For Dinner I have a salad and protein (chicken, turkey, fish or cut-up steak).   It really reset my mind and I do believe my pouch.    I eat less, but most of all I really think what I am putting in my mouth.    Does that Chip really have more value than a chicken leg,  well maybe to my thighs it does, cause that is where the Chip is going to end up.   All I can say is sometimes we get lost and we need to get back on road to head to our destination,  which road we choose is only up to us and no one else.    So what works for some may not work for others and that is fine and what I call FREE Choice. Good-Day to ALL Laura
