lack of medical testing before P/S ???

Hello all, A friend of mine is a WLS graduate for 3 years now and is scheduled for her BL/reduction in a week. She is concerned because after all the testing and stuff that we go through in order to have WLS there was basically no testing to get the breast lift/reduction. She says all the surgeons did was take pictures and measurements and ask questions. She suffers from cysts and also has a filter in because she's prone to blood clots. KNOWING THIS SHOULD THE SURGEON HAVE SCHEDULED HER TO TAKE MORE TESTS??? SHOULD SHE TRY AND GET A SECOND OR THIRD OPINION? Being that PS is an elective surgery would 2nd or 3rd opinions even be available??? Any responses are greatly appreciated .

I would think that after all the testing that was done prior to wls that would be in her medical history ?  I know when I had my hernia repaired and panni removed I had the pre surg testing done but not the heart or breathing done again. Just the blood work, bp done. Before going into surgery they double checked my records and did see I had RNY and made sure they were careful when they intubated me.  I didn't get a second opinion for my panni removal and I guess I maybe should have but I felt comfortable with the surgeon. If she is worried about the blood clots maybe she should talk with the doctor again just to ease her mind. And if she thinks she should get another opinion she should do it. I didn't see the ps until day of surgery after the initial consultation. And I'm a "novice" when it comes to surgeries. Other than being in the hospital for having my kids this wls was my second surgery. ( first being 1/2 thyroid removed a year before) and hernia and panni was third. Sandy

She went for her pre-op exams yesterday.  I think she is concerned that the actual surgeon didnt take any ex-rays or blood work but at the hospital they did do the blood work.  Before RNY she had low blood counts iron, b-vitamins, etc so I guess she is really trying to take all the necessary precautions that she can.  If you read my Blog, she is the friend who had literally died on the table and had to be de-fibbed because of blood clots.  So I can understand her caution. Everything will work out for the best. Its in God's hands.

That might be a sign that she needs to keep looking for the right plastic surgeon for her. I'm in the midst of a slew of PS consults and am amazed at the difference in pre-op testing done from surgeon to surgeon. I had one tell me to stop taking my vitamins for the 2 weeks before my plastic surgery because Vitamin E can make you bleed more. Honestly, I can't imagine going 2 weeks without my vitamins, so that's another reason for me to get another opinion. I think she should seek additional opinions from other surgeons. She'll be in my prayers.

Update---- Today she got a call from her surgeons office telling her that she needs to come in for an EKG and more blood tests.  She was also told that she will be given a chest x-ray and the surgeon also got a copy of her mammogram reports as well... So I think she is in good hands just a litte impatient I guess... Thanks Everyone!!!!!
