"Time Out" Program
I've been struggling for the past few months and decided to try the "Time Out" program. Can someone give me specific details on that. I want to make sure I will be getting enough calories and meet my nutritional needs while doing it! I'm planning on starting it tomorrow so need info ASAP!
Thanks,
Barb T.
i saw my surgeon yesterday and i asked him about the time out plan. he said it is a "yo yo" diet and we dont need to do that. you have to start using your tool. thats what i been doing.
i write down everything on fitday.com and i do the post accountable what did you eat yesterday on this graducates board. it helps alot and alesia and others are so good at supporting. anita
Barb,
I will tell you what my doctor tells his patients but you might want to check with your doctor - that is a personal decision.
The first two weeks I had three protein shakes a day (Nectar or Essence, both made by Syntrax). They have 90 calories and 23 G of protein each. Remember to take your vitamins and calcium. Also, I put two teaspoons of Benefiber in each drink.
After two weeks, I dropped to two shakes and a salad with fat free salad dressing - on the salad, no protein - just veggies.
My surgeon keeps his patients on this until they reach the goal that the doctor and patient set. This is normally used for patients who have reached their permanent plateau and have started regaining.
Dr. Warnock does as that we have our electrolytes checked every two-four weeks while on this program. For what it's worth, I had my labs done after being on it for almost six weeks and everything was perfect.

Barb,
Even though I have slowed way down losing, I feel so much better and have so much more energy. Last night, for instance, I got home at 5:30. I was antsy - too energetic to just sit around the house so I put a load of clothes on to wash and sat down to watch tv for a while - just couldn't sit there. I changed into shorts and athletic shoes, grabbed some Crystal Light and headed for the workout room. I did 150 leg presses, 20 minutes on the eliptical, two miles on the treadmill and 2.5 miles on the bike. Then I walked the quarter mile back to my apartment. I finished the load of wash I had started and did two more. Then I cleaned and mopped the kitchen and prepared dinner for my son who got off work at 10 PM. Then, and only then, did I take a long hot bubble bath and settle down to watch tv.
Six weeks ago, I couldn't have done all that after working all day. And on top of all I did at home, I took the train to work which involved a 1/2 mile walk from the rail station to my office and then went to my doctor's office after work - another 1/2 mile walk each way to and from his office and after that, ran a couple of errands before going home.
Understand that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis and take strong pain meds every day just to function. So to have the energy and stamina to do what I did yesterday speaks volumes for how much this protocol has helped me. Before I started it, while I was still comforting my body with junk food, I would go home and nap for 30 minutes (if I didn't sleep on the train or bus going home) before doing anything and at most, I would go to the pool or jus****ch tv til bedtime.
