iam 10 months out (lap band)and lost 85 pounds.  Now my hair is dramatically falling out.  Last 2 months haven't been taking my protein shakes and viatmins as religiously as previously.  should i now double up on protein/viatmins?  How sooon should I see a change? Any suggestions?

Hair is protein.  WIthout protein, low growth and loss occurs.  This fact isn't unique to WLS.  In post WLS, protein will be VITAL.  I also still take Biotin for extra measure.  I lost a lot of hair in months 6-10.  It stopped when the weight loss became less dramatic and my intake was more routine.

It has filled back in nicely now.  Biotin is a vitamin used primarily for hair and nail strength.  I buy my month's supply at Walmart for three or fours bucks.  Sometimes I think I will stop taking it, but then I decide one more month.............  hahahaha Vicky

Things will level out but you have to get your protein and take your vitamins, everyday!...no you don't have to double up, just take them.

I am 18 mos. out (gastric bypass) and have lost 100 lbs.  I have been taking a vitamin, Biotin, every day since my surgery.  It helps with hair and nails.  I get it online at BariatricAdvantage.com and I get the 5 mg. dosage.  This was suggested to me by my surgeon at the time of my surgery.  I haven't lost any hair and my hair and nails look great.  But keep up with your protein shakes and other vitamins.  I also take a multi-vitamin and calcium 2 x's a day.  I am still taking Flinstones chewables but it seems to be working.  My blood work has been great since day one and I have had no complications whatsoever.  Good luck to you!
