BODY FOR LIFE?

Good Morning Everyone! This morning I posted this question over on the workout and finess forum. I got some wonderful help there but thought I would post this here are well since I know there are some real gym rats over here too! Can anyone here tell me about their experience with Body For Life or weight lifting in general as a postop? I am really excited to embark on some weight training and have the BFL book and journal from my preop days. As a postop I DO feel that my body has been transformed to an extent but am looking to look and feel a little hotter without clothes on. So, no reconstructive surgery for me yet but this is a start. I know I will gain a ton of energy as well. Anyone done this Bill Philip's BFL program? If not, I will be happy to be the first to report back to the forum and let everyone know how it goes. I am rearranging my weight area in my home and trying to figure out what to do for my 20 minuets of hard cardio. Running I suppose since I do not have a treadmill but I do have an awesome set of weights just sitting there begging for some action..  Anyway, please share your experiences! Molly

I did it preop and I really liked lifting weights.  My problem was I never lost much weight and I didn't stick with it.  I have thought about doing it postop, but haven't yet.  Maybe I will give it a shot.  I have the Bill Philip's book and Pamela Peek did a Body for Life for Women, I have that too.  I get so inspired by the pictures, it is amazing how people can change their bodies like that.   I am lucky becasue my arms, actually my whole upper body, really slimmed down it's my lower belly, thighs and badonkadonk that could really use the muscle! Running would be great cardio!  Good luck!

badonkadonk...LOL! ME too (thank you Toby Keith for coining that little word) !!! Have you seen that Lifesaver's commercial about the lady with "muffin top"? That is how I feel these days. I feel pretty (it's all a state of mind) in general since I have shed a couple pounds lately and have been tanning, ect. I walk around like I am "Miss Thang" then the minuet I sit down I have to rearrange my middle section and tug at my shirt! Ughh I wanna cry but I just laugh at myself! I gotta do something!About all this. Losing all the weight I have I would still feel like crap if I didn't tone this action up/ Anyway, thanks for the shout out! I will update you on how it goes!

How funny, I just took his book out and started looking through it again.  A friend lost over 130 pounds on this but stopped and guess what?  Yep, gained it all back and then some.  (she is non op) I think the key with this are the intervals he uses with the weights and the cardio.  You know exertion levels and going through several different cycles of this during your cardio workout.  I was looking through the book to get some ideas for more free weight exercises but I basically follow his weight training schedule. Work lower body then next day upper and so forth.  I do this mainly due to time constraints.  But I do more cardio than 20 minutes.  I just feel I need the fat burning part of that right now for some reason.  I have seen it work first hand though.  Another person in the book - Carolyn Culverhouse, if you come across her pic - used to be in my weigh****chers meeting years ago and she looks great in the pics.  Haven't seen her lately though.   Keep us posted.  I do know that since I've started religiously doing weights and keep my muscles challenged with increasing the amount of weight and types of exercises my weight loss has increased along with inch loss if this helps.  Good Luck!

I did BFL a long time ago and did great with it (before WLS) but found it was hard to get to the gym for such a commitment daily...however, it works and you see results FAST. If you are able to do it at home, that's great! I currently eat similar to his program and then do Curves and walk alot. Love, another Molly!

Molly, congratulations on you wanting to know which exercise program is best for you.I did Body of Life too before WLS.I found the workouts were great but it was me that did not keep up with it.Lifting no matter what program you follow will over time tone your body and help you burn fat .Muscle weighs more fat,You can flllow his program or like I tell everyone .I go to BODYBUILDERS.COMwebsite.You will find different exercises for each body part. That way you can do BLF and do different exercises giving you the best results.Remenber exercise will help in reducing but if you have excess skin ,nothing will help.Your mentally will improve, your outlook on life will change and you will feel better about yourself. Try to get your cardio in,I do not know what you can and can not do,but walk ,time your walking and shorten it as time goes on. I believe in order to maintain, food and exercise are very important factures.Alot of people know me,I try to get 5 days a week but it is a struggle to even do that sometimes.Best wishes.....bob
