old question about protein

I know this is an old, worn-out question, but . . . what's the thinking on how long protein drinks stay "good"?  I got my samples of Nectar and just made up a shake of Roadside Lemonade w/ the lemonade CL & ice--blended it--made about enough to pretty much fill my big 32 oz. insulated WW mug.  It tasted OK.  However, it took me well over an hr. to drink--actually, might have been longer than 1.5 hrs., as I was doing stuff around the house.  I know the literature often says that after 30 min. the protein is compromised, but I'm wondering if anyone knows to what extent this is true.  I could certainly make it a point to drink it faster.

Thanks!

I don't have an answer for you cuz I drink down my 30 grams of protein in one cup of hot chocolate so it's gone in a matter of a five minutes or so.  How much protein are you getting in the 32 oz cup??? That'd take me a while to do as well.  I've heard that protein isn't as good after 30 minutes, but I've personally seen no studies to prove that.  Interested to here what others say.  Laurie

I just toss in a normal scoop of protein (about 23 g. of protein I think) and add 2 c. Crys. Lt. & about 2 **** and blend it all.  Gives me a full-to-the-brim 32 oz. mug full.  Next one, I might just shake up the protein scoop & CL and leave the ice out so it doesn't make such a huge frothy concoction.   Thanks!

Always,
Jo

studies were done in the '80's. i know there are many who say making pitcher is fine. (sorry, L arm is shattered, just had surgery to fix)

the 30g in 30 minutes rule is rule of thumb. protein is like gold to me. i never waste it, so leaving it sit or making substantially more g, would be somewhere between a small or mammoth waste of money for me. i just don't take chances.

i would make more shakes more often if you reeeally like your recipe, just smaller.

i also would not eat meat that had been bitten off (by me) after 30 min. once digestion (saliva) has begun, it's "contaminated" in my mind. meat or whey.

Thanks, Michelle--I feel the same--don't want to waste the protein.  Normally, it's not an issue because I get my protein from food, but I'm trying to get back to some basic eating/drinking and just needed a refresher on the time issue.  I'm hoping the protein shakes help reign me back in from the crappy carbs I've been eating.

Hope your arm heals up quickly!

Always,
Jo

thanks very much. it can almost help me now, but is still the size of TX with fluids so hurts to prop it up.

i've never ever counted protein in foods. bizarre, huh?
