Hey guys... I'm not looking to be preached to, but just wanted to know what you guys thought about it.  I'm 1.5yrs out...and really just want to lose those last 20 lbs.  Do we know if it's safe for us?  (I know I know, ask my doctor...just looking to see if you kids have considered it or heard anything about it) Thanks either way! Alli is basically Xenical repackaged. I tried that years ago..nasty nasty stuff..if you do take it, be prepared. If you ingest anything with fat..you will have THE loosest, smelliest oily stools ever..oh and cramps. It's totally up to you, but you couldn't pay me a million bucks to do that again lol Why not just go protein, water exercise? I'm NOT preaching..just trying to be helpful :) If you need some encouragement or someone to help you along, let me know! I Chick

From what I understand, the prescription form of Alli (Xenical) was only effective if the patients kept on taking it.  Weight loss was extremely modest... so I'm not sure if it would really give you the effects you want.   Also, in the literature they recommend that you supplement with fat-soluble vitamins as it has the risk of causing nutritional deficiencies..  Because of this, I would be wary of taking it.  (It's also very expensive... $100/month or so... I'd spend that money on a trainer rather than meds!)

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

Aileen--funny you should post this on the very day I had considered posting it. I, too, am seriously considering Alli and have been doing quite a bit of research. I bought the book first, visited the website, etc..   www.myalli.com and still am planning on trying it--with my doctor's blessing. My main question would be whether or not the desired actions will work on my "re-routed" system. Having weird BMs is not a big concern to me. YOu do not have to "omit" fats--it just calls for having 15gm or less of fat at one time--which is honestly not that hard to do, if you have a balanced diet--which I have NOT been doing, obviously. yes-I had THOUGHT I'd never again have to resort to "pills", but this is a very personal decison, and one I haven't taken lightly. Good luck with whatever you choose--and as the saying goes "Information is Power"
