Hypoglycemia

Can anyone here tell me what the symptoms of hypoglycemia are?  What do you feel like when you're experiencing this?  I used to skim over the posts about this, but now I'm wondering if I should have paid more attention.  A couple of times in the past few weeks, I have had times when my hands feel very shaky, and I feel a little woozy, too.  Not as though I'm going to pass out, but just strange - it's hard for me to describe.  Any input would be appreciated. it varies, but for me, it's cold sweat type of thing...sometimes dizzy...sometimes naseau.  But, for me....the cold but sweaty is the first sign.   Rachael

I haven't noticed any sweating at all, neither cold nor hot.  So you get this cold sweat every episode?  I wonder if there are varying symptoms as well?

Okay, you should go to your doctor blah blah blah.  Having said that, it sure sounds like what you're experiencing.  I get this EVERY morning around 8:30 so I automatically eat either a package of pb on wheat crackers or an 8 oz nsa lf yogurt before hand now so that I don't have to get that feeling.  Sometimes, it will happen around 4 or around 10 pm also - but rarely.  My symptoms are:  shaky, woozy, know I should do something but can't seem to do it (if I'm on the phone, it's like I don't know what I'm saying or who I'm talking to) and sweating profusely!!  I hate this feeling which is why I do something a few minutes before automatically so I can avoid it.  Best of luck!!  And welcome to the "club"

Early one, like last summer when mine started, my symptoms were very much as you describe.  Now I usually just get a "floaty" feeling.  Like my head isn't really attached well and my thoughts are disconnected.  I have a horrible time trying to get words out or complete a thought.

I use to have more warning that I was getting low.  Now it's just BOOM and I'm 35.  Scary.  But in 2 weeks and 4 days, that will be taken care of.  Then I can relearn how to eat.

For me, it happened so gradually, that I began to think that eating only cottage cheese and protein bars was normal.  But in no stretch of imagination is that normal.  Some days I am able to eat anything and the next day the same food will drop me like a rock.

Talk to your WLS doc.  This is becoming more and more appearent.  My endo told me to drink milk as a quick remedy when I'm low.  Hard to carry around tho!

The first sign I get is the shaky hands, and I know I had better eat!  Next my insides feel uneasy, and I feel like I am shaking from the inside out.  If I still don't eat...I get stupid.  I cannot do simple things like add or subtract.  I even had one episode I got all sweaty and felt like I could pass out at any moment.  I have to eat every 2-4 hours, and it has to be protein, or protein with a carb.  I hope this helps.

Thank you for all the responses.  I recognize a lot of the things everyone mentioned, and I appreciate hearing about how you handle this.  I appreciate the input, and I will need to consult my doc in the near future.  Thanks again! Carlita

Shaky, confused, hot and sweaty. Good Lord I just realized this could be signs of early menopause!  God, I hope it is just hypoglycemia - my hubby and I (I lost 130 pounds and gained 205 pounds in husband thanks to Gastric Bypass!) are trying to conceive! Anyway.  It usually happens to me about an hour or two after I eat a meal or snack that is too many carbs and no protein.  It happened once when I was out exercising by myself with no cell phone and about 2 miles from my car.  Not fun!  Now, I try to make sure I'm more prepared.  By the way, a protein snack fixes me right up. :)
