Question about my future
Ok so at one year out I have a very picky pouch still. I get sick often off of fatty foods, greesy food and god forbid I eat something to sweet. I am affraid to even try bread, rice or starchy things like that.
So my question is.. at one year out is that pretty much what you will have the rest of your life or will my pouch someday not be as sensitive. I read others can eat anything at this point.. I know I cant. when do we finally know what will be our destiny with what our pouch can and can not handle for the future. I was told to reintroduce things later if they bothered me early on, but I tell you they are still bothering me today.
I guess i will just always have a pouch that toes the line as far as following rules.. which is ok by me.. keeps me on track so to speak. How is it for everyone else.

Interesting post! Ya know, I do understand what you mean and isn't it amazing how we can all be so different in this regard?
My pouch is not as picky as yours but I can tell you there are certain things that will never agree with me and I have just decided to swear off of them either because they make my dump something vicious or because they get stuck (Triscuts, Shredded wheat and really dry stuff makes me foam up and they get stuck).
I guess you are a little fortunate that your pouch enforces the rules more than mine! But I know it can't be easy either!
My Tummy has a complete mind of its own as to what it will tolerate and when. I can tell you that after year one it did get less sensative. I have notice so many things effect what I can eat for example: time of the month, prior fluid intake, prior carb intake, weather (ok I knows im crazy but I seem to get very full very quick when it is humid)
I think there is some since of balance that kinda happens after a while but in my opinion we are al so different it is hard to compare.
Good luck But personally I long for the days when I can tolerate Fatty/ sugary foods>

I am 2 1/2 years out and mine is like yours still. There are things I will never be able to eat again. This last weekend everything I tried to eat made me sick. Now sure why. Most days are better then that. I do have sugar stuff once in a while in very small amounts. I found malted milk balls at Trader Joe's that I like. I have maybe one when I am feeling good. Some days I wonder why I even eat. I still get an upset stomach, hot flashes, but the good thing is I have not thrown up in months. You may be like me and have to watch what you eat for ever. I think it’s a good thing it is easier to control my weight this way. Kim

Just another example of how we always want what we don't have! For those who can eat anything, we are trying to "retrain" our pouch because the freedom of eating is a burden. Now I wish I could dump again and couldn't tolerate foods that I shouldn't eat anyway. I never vomited once since surgery and can eat anything I desire, thus the continued struggle with "should I or shouldn't I" If I couldnt tolerate the foods then it would be a non issue. Then for those who have to remain restricted because of the physical change from the surgery (and wasnt that the point of having the procedure) they feel that sense of loss that is distressing. But at least you can see how this can be a positive thing and use it as a benefit. If I COULDN'T eat things anymore, then I might be posting how I will miss it too, see what I mean about we always want what we don't have??
i didnt say I didnt want what i have.. I love the fact it keeps me on track.. i was just asking if the pouch changes continue over time and should i continue to try things that havent worked in the past later down the road. when does what you are gonna have settle down to what it will be.. i hate trying things again just to get sick. I've tried ribs 3 times and each time I have gotten sick.. i never want to see a rib again. it use to be my favorite food. There was no complaint in my post at all..
Do you still have your gallbladder? Some of that could be from gall stones blocking the outlet. Especially sensitivity to fatty foods.
I'm 1 1/2 yr out and still have days but nothing like what you are saying. I wonder if you have a stricture at this late in the game. I'd talk to my surgeon if I were you.

I still have my gallbladder but i dont think it is a problem.. before surgery if i ate things too spicey or fatty i would sometimes get a tummy ache. i think my tummy is just more sensitive now with the surgery... I believe there will be things I will never be able to eat again..nor do i want to for that matter.. i did this to get healthy and i intend to stay healthy for the rest of my life.
