Day Nine Liquid Diet Pouch Reset

Hey Good Morning! Today is day nine of my liquid diet (time out, pouch reset, whatever!) I am just listening to my body and taking it a day at a time. My tenative plan is to continue til Friday. Hopefully this is going to answer some questions for people. The plan consist of: 3 Protein Shakes  100 ounces of sugar free, calorie free liquids like water or Crystal Light No solids. Thats what I had yesterday plus some chicken bullion, coffe with SF creamer, and some hot SF jello.  It is going really, really well and someone at church last night complimented me on my weight loss again for the first time in almost a year. I have lost 8 pounds. The scale did not move yesterday but that is ok. My DH thinks I look, in his words, "extra hot" (I love that man, lol!) I think that more than the weight loss I have boosted confidence and am taking extra care with my hair, makeup, tanning, dressing because of it. So, those are great side effects as well. Anyway, I plan to keep at this til Friday when I will add some protein foods and salads between shakes. Yesterday I emailed one of my wls heroes from the Texas Boards. He did this liquid diet a few months ago and gained it all back shortly so I want to really stay on top of this thing so that does not happen. For the record, he now has gone back to basics and to the gym which is great! I hope to do the same and just skip the weight gain part of course.  Hope ya'll are feeling good and beautifully sticking to whatever eating method you chose. The point is that we are doing something besides mindlessly eating and avoiding this site!

Thank you Molly Mae, for sharing this plan. For myself, the next step is to carefully Think  about what I put in my mouth, so I don't do the diet "hip Hop"  on again and off again, but find the middle of the road and be able to live with my choices.  Thanks for stressing that exercise also helps and we need it for a life time.  Congrad's on the weight that you have lost and that you are going to keep off. Take care.

Hi Deb! Thanks so much. I started this thing out of desperation to get my head on right about what was going into my body. I was like constantly on the hunt (seriously) for more, more, more carbs! I felt like a ravenous sugar crazed idiot becuause sugar makes me temporarity stupid and tired.  Soooo, I am definatly detoxed from sugars and that was my main thing. The other main thing was to take some weight off in quick order and I feel good about that too. Now, my next thing is to implement healthier habits and find my "new normal" I do not want to be looking for that next carb fix again...EVER! Thanks for your words of encouragement. They mean a lot, Molly

Awww! Anita! Don't lose heart.  You are being very concious of what is going into your mouth and that is great. My weight fluctuates like crazy sometimes.  It sounds like you were doing really well and maybe you could try not to weigh for a few days and then you'll be pleasantly suprised I bet! Hugs, Molly

Anita, Yes, you can use a protein other than Nectar.  There were a few listed as suggestions by the surgeons and Nectar was just the one most of us had at home.   Nectars are good because they mix with crystal lite and you don't have to add the fat and calories of milk to make it palatable.  I also use the Isopure ready to drink bottles.  The important thing is that you are choosing a protein that is low calorie, low fat, and good quality.  For instance, the Isopure bottles have 2 servings in one bottle with 20 grams of protein and only 80 calories per serving.  The Nectar proteins have about 23 grams of protein and only 90 calories per serving.  Both of those have no sugar, no carbs, no fat, etc.  To contrast that, the Muscle Milk Light has 160 calories, 3 grams of sugar, 9 grams of carbs, and only 20 grams of protein.  Also, I like the Atkins advantage shakes, but they also have 160 calories for only 15 grams of protein.  Do you see what I mean?  The important thing is that you are getting as much protein with as little calories, fat, carbs, etc.  I have been doing a modified version of the Time Out, eating one meal a day or sometimes 2 shakes and 2 small meals a day, but staying around 1000 calories a day if I do eat.  I have been doing this for 12 days and have lost 7 lbs.  So, while I am not reporting as nice of a loss as the true "time outers", I am doing well and can easily maintain this loss.  I think either way, whether you modify it or not, the key is to ease out of it gradually and make good choices when you do eat.  I haven't been snacking at all.  I have decided at each meal whether it will be a shake or a solid protein meal.  I have had lots of salads with grilled chicken, some grilled fish and veggies, and some tuna.  I did have a few slip ups and they set me back a little.  However, I think that's a good indicator that we can stick with this forever because there is room for the occasional oops.  I think you are safe to do the solid jello as long as you are keeping track of your intake still, as long as it's not a trigger for you that makes you snack.   I think it's great that we have all supported each other on this and the best part is that we can use this tool whenever we need it.  It's not a one time shot.  If we notice our weight loss has stalled or even gone back up, we can just cut out some food and replace it with protein shakes.  It's that simple.  Good luck with whatever way you approach it.   Angela

Anita, The Isopure ready to drink bottles are expensive too.  They are at GNC, but they cost about $3.50 each and that's only 2 servings.  They sell Isopure powder, but I haven't tried it.  I tried the Body Fortress, but I don't like the taste.  If I were you and I did like the taste, I would just continue drinking it with the skim milk.  Skim milk only adds another 90 calories or so and has additional protein.  That's less than 300 calories added if you drink the 3 shakes.  Don't make it harder on yourself than you have to.  The purpose of the time out is to make us more mindful of what we are putting in our bodies.  I think the Body Fortress with skim milk would be just fine.  Then, when you are ready to come off the time out just add a high protein and continue the shakes at the other meals.  No reason to break the bank when you can succeed without expensive drinks.  Good luck, Angela
