Slipped discs

I am 27 years old and 5 years out and have lost 100% of my excess weight (320lbs to 140lbs) and have not gained an ounce back however about 2 years ago I had 2 herinatted discs in my lower back just from getting out of the car. It seems  I re-aggrivate it every couple of months and can hardly stand for about a week. I never had back problems prior to WLS it just seems weird to have them now. I have been doing core strenghening etc but it is not helping I do have quite a bit of hanging skin in my tummy area and am starting to think that is what is throwing my back out of alignment. What do you think......

I just want to say that I am inspired.  I am 27 as well and it's great to hear that you weighed close to what I did and got down to 140.  That's so what I am shooting for....and to top it off, you have maintained it.   Sorry to hear about your pain.  Have you been to a chiropracter?  My doc suggested one when I started to have back pain post-op.  I guess the excess weight puts stress on muscles and when it's gone you can have all sorts of things out of wack. My chiropractor told me that my tummy skin is also contributing to my low back and hip problems as well. The good news about that is it makes getting a tummy tuck more easily covered by insurance (crossing fingers, eyes and toes). In the meantime, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees (laying on your side) and when you're sitting make sure you have LOTS of lumbar support. Oh, and if you're amenable to chiropractic, it helps me a LOT. Good luck!

Yeah I am hoping that it will help the tummy tuck issue too :) I pretty much do all of the above. My Dr said I really need to do a lot of back strengthening exercises so I figure I will keep on with that and if it still keeps going out i am soooo pushing for the tummy tuck

I had disc problems pre-WLS and had surgery for it 5 weeks prior to my WLS and they have since compressed a bit more so I'm having some problems again.  I have some skin issues but not much.   Good luck! Kathy

I can truely say that since I had my tt 3 months ago, my back feels so much better. I used to have to go to the chiropractor all the time, but now I go once in a great while. I also had my stomach muscles tightened which made a drastic improvement because after having kids there was about a 3 inch gap between them. Now they are tight and I think that is making all the difference. Now I have a small hernia above the incision I have to have fixed but that is nothing compared to what I've already had done. Also, my insurance covered my tt because my skin hung down past my pubic area. So take lots of pictures and document your pain and go for it. Have your chiropractor as well as your PCP write a letter of recommendation too. The more ammo the better! I had mine done at the same time I had a pelvic hernia fixed. Diona
