I have heard so much about protein drinks and the few I tried were HORRIBLE.. Are there any that really are good .. Do they make you feel full ?  I am thinking of doing the 2 meals and one being a protein drink of some kind for the 3rd meal .. Do the fruity ones taste good and who makes those?  Does GNC have any .. I know , lots of questions but looking for you experts to help me out here ,,,,PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE  :)  Shirl

I understand the confusion when it comes to protein shakes.  I think it's all personal preference.  I had limited options when I had my RNY 6 years ago...but now, they have some GREAT ones!!  Thanks to some great suggestions here, I started drinking the Nectar by Syntrax.  I have the Fuzzy Navel and Roadside Lemonade.  I just ordered samples of some other flavors from their line.  They taste great - like a thicker fruity drink!!  I put them in 12 oz of water so it tastes more like a juice.  Some people even add Crystal Light to them to give them more flavor.  I DEFINITELY recommend them.  They have 23 g Protein. You can get Nectar online or I picked mine up at The Vitamin Shoppe - they DO NOT carry it at GNC.... Best of luck!!  If you cmoe across any others ...let me know!!

Hey Shirl, Ok, I know what you mean about protein drinks. Mine kinda fill me up for  a little while I am not sure how much of that is placebo effect but it makes me feel better.  GNC does not carry Nectar but I am not sure about in your area but get on the phone and call around and ask if they carry Nectar or any other kind of protein that tasts good without milk.  Also, if you have any wls friends close to you, you might consider getting together and doing a little protein exchange. I have 1/2 a canister of Roadside Lemonade I would like to pawn off on somone. I just got tired of it and haven't tried it again in ages!

I am not a chocolate person so I like the vanilla flavor.  I use Unjury.  First got a sample from the surgeon's office.  They have a website where you can buy sample packets.  Mixes with a spoon pretty well but is super frothy and good with the magic bullet or stick blender.  It only has 90 calories and 20 grams of protein by itself and I mix it with skim milk.   I also tried some samples of the nectar.  I tried the twisted cherry with has a funny after taste to me and I didn't try nectar again for a long time.  Then I got the nerve to try another flavor, carribean cooler!!! AWESOME.  Mixed with orange crystal light it tastes just like a pina colada.  The fuzzy navel isn't bad, but not as great as the carribean cooler.   GOod luck Rachael

I also 'doctor' mine up.  I asked on the main board about shake recipes and got a lot.  If you want I can email them to you.  Right now I am having a vanilla unjury mixed with milk and a shot of davinci sugar free Kahlua flavoring.  It tastes just like an iced latte at Starbucks.  One of the recipes I got was for something called a "green giant"  It was any vanilla mixed with milk and a Tablespoon of SF instant Jello Pistascio pudding.  YUUUUMMM...you can use any flavor pudding mix.  Just be creative, but lots of folks have experiemented before we came a long so take advantage of their trial and error!

Protein drinks will fill you temporarily, as in any liquid eventually you become hungry.  I have grown accustomed to "Go" protein drink mixed with water.  My reasons for using any protein drink this far out are as follows:  1.) It is a complete protein opposed to all isolate and serves my work out/muscles better;  2.) it tastes fine; 3.) I budget my caloric intake to allow a protein drink (not to use as a meal substitute).  Even for those who have gained back some weight a meal substitution i.e., protein drink is a temporary fix.
