How long do we keep up with the labs?
Hi !
You have to do labs for the rest of your life!!!
My PCP was the last to order me labs. Make an appointment for a yearly checkup which should be covered under your insurance and request the labs that you need. A portion of mine ended up being out of pocket but was WELL worth it. I have the peace of mind that I am not dying!
Good luck!

Oh! Sorry I forgot to add that for instance...vitamin B12 can severely plummet after 3, 4, 5+ years postop. That is why so many have to take monthly shots. If your B12 levels fall way low and you start having nerve trouble it could be too late and that is why we have to get bloodwork done annually for life.
Sigh...the price we pay for being healthy! Isn't it great though?
Ty for ur comment, im only 1 1/2 yrs out but i already do take b 12 shots due to other nerve damage. I started out at 324 and im currently at 157.. and loving it all. Last lab came back good and its been about 4 months since i had it.. How offten should i be having them checked now that im going on 2 yrs out? .. Again ty for ur help
Hello, it's good that you are checking in. Please hook up with another surgeon or a PCP that is familar with the required lab work you will need at least once a year. It is so important for your continued health.
Congratulations on your success.
