CONSUMPTION,,,sounds evil doesnt it?
That’s a good word. Consume makes it sound like I have eaten more than my share and taken someone elses! I have discovered that the only way I can be accountable to myself is to be accountable to others. I know this sounds like a repeat of the "What have you eaten today" thread and for that I apologize. Please bear with me. This is my day, yesterday.

2 cups of General Foods International coffee with Sweet-n-Low 60c/? P
8 oz. Skim Milk w/ Protein Powder 210c/ 28 P

3 oz. Tuna w/Dill Pickles 90c/15 P
4 Wheat Crackers 70c/? P
¾ oz. cheese wedge 80c/5 P
Protein Bar 150c/15 P
24 oz. water w/ ½ pack Protein Powder 35c/8 P
Yogurt w/ Blueberries 100c/5 P
1 packet Weight Control Oatmeal
w/ 1tspn. Country Crock & Sweet-n-Low 160c/8 P
Total so far today 1250c/100g P
Dinner was:
5 Chicken Nuggets - a few cold fried dill pickle slices - one drummette
Bananas, Strawberries and Blueberries for desert
Dinner wasnt so bad, but it might have been because I spent an hour and a half at the gym and was too tired to eat when I got home...
As to the calories, I probably was right at my 1700-1800 mark.
Has anyone been on a Nautilus Treadclimber before? If I dont break my neck, that is the BEST machine I have ever been on - thats a workout! I burned about 500 calories working out I think - between the treadclimber and treadmill, it was over 300 - of course, I dont know how accurate those counters are.
WHY does that seem like a lot compared to some I read on here? I can’t function on 800-1000 total calories a day. Using Harris-Benedict, living takes 1300+ calories a day at my TARGET weight………I TRY to stay at 1781 (137 pounds x 13kcal per pound).
I WILL have an afternoon snack (usually a protein bar or Dannon light yogurt and fruit or another bowl of oatmeal [its gym day – I need carbs])
I tend to get bored in the afternoon at work; because I usually hustle in the morning……I don’t go at such a pace in the afternoon. When I get bored, I eat……Ok, 1250 calories is more than usual. It was that Protein bar for "lunch desert" – tomorrow I will cut out the muffin and just eat oatmeal for my a.m. snack and that protein bar can go……and then something else the following day.
It’s so stupid. I just thought about it as I finished my afternoon oatmeal. I am not necessarily eating because I am hungry – I am eating because I THINK I am supposed to – because its time to eat. I think I have convinced myself that if I don’t eat it at the exact time, then I won’t get it or I will be starving later and really pig out. Does that make ANY sense?
Hey, at least I have my protein in!
The ritual evening snack is apple slices with Laughing Cow cheese and a few crackers, so that’s about 150-200 calories……and if I eat some chicken or fish and a few veggies, then I am right at 1700-1800 calories……….
I am 3 years and 7 months out today. My lowest weight was 137, of which I stayed at about 2 weeks, everyone said I looked anorexic and I have been fairly stable at 143-147 for the last 2.5 years, with the exception of the 5 pounds I have found VERY recently. I weigh 152 right now.
Do these figures seem out of line with the rest of the Gastric Bypass world??? I am beginning to feel like a fat woman again……….
PS……I love food and I can just about eat anything I want within reason.
I hope ya’ll don’t mind if I post my daily journal entries on here. It’s the ONLY way I can hold myself accountable – to let other people see it and comment on what I am doing right or what I am doing wrong.
I guess I am asking for Support and Guidance!
Thanks!
Hey! Our surgery dates are really close (mine was 9/11/03). It looks like you're doing great to me! I agree with you on the calories per day thing. I honestly don't know how anybody survives on less than 1500 a day. Your eating looks really good, I think. I wish I was so good. I have admitted, and am ashamed to say, that I eat pretty much like I did prior to WLS, only in smaller quantities. I have paid for that way of living too, by regaining 25 pounds. I keep seeing all these posts about the time-out plan, but I'm afraid to try it! I can't stand the thought of going through carb detox and feeling hungry all day. I'm a wimp when it comes to that stuff. I am getting more exercise and have been since January, and I think that is at least keeping me from gaining more weight. If I wanted to get serious, though and try to lose some of the regained weight, my eating would have to go through a major overhaul that I feel unmotivated to try.
Keep up your good work!
Carlita
I have never counted calories, so it's hard to say. I recently did them for curiosity and it was about 1000 in protein supps (with water) and about 900 in food. But there was over 200g protein (180 in supps) and only about 12g sugar, total.
I gained 8# doing fruit daily. I can do it now and then, but not daily. And I have the most radical distal RNY.
And the other thing would be, how do these group in actual meals, or do you pretty much eat something every half hour?
So, my own personal take and I cringe to even say the words, it looks like way too much food (grazing?), not enough protein in supp OR food and waaaaaaaaaaaay too many carbs. And that can make you feel tired and sluggish, actually. You don't really know how many carbs/sugars you are getting til you read every label (including milk) and add 'em up. My original goal was 6g per meal. I have 4 meals/day. 2 are more meal-like, 2 are more snack like. But no solids in between at all.

Thanks for all the replies. I DO feel better knowing I am not alone in this 1500+ calorie count! Michelle, as far as the breakdown of when I eat. Breakfast yesterday was the Protein Drink and the 1/2 English Muffin AM snack was the Oatmeal Lunch was the tuna, crackers and Cheese w/ the Protein bar as "desert" TWO afternoon snacks - the oatmeal and yogurt (ONE too many, I know) Dinner was the chicken Desert was the fruit I really have never counted sugars and dont often count carbs - only protein and calories I know I cant have over 15g of sugar or I have carb crash Carbs, I can tolerate in just about any amount
I usually have three meals a day with two snacks, even tho my list shows three - hmmmmmmmm... My doc wants protein from food sources mainly, although I have always had the Protein with milk drink......he says one or two liquid meals are ok, but no more....he wants a minimum of 100 grams of Protein, which I usually get very close to. He also says 100 oz. of water (NOT mixed with anything). I usually get that in too. I know I eat WAY too many carbs.
I have to reteach myself (oh, about every 2 weeks) that I feel full now, and no I cannot leave the last 3 bites for an hour from now when I'm not so full. Meal is over in 15 minutes, so the plate has to go away. No, I am not too busy to get up and take it away. LOL Leaving the plate HERE induces guilt, which makes me eat, so GET UP AND MOVE IT.
Everyone has their own self talk thingy, I think.
I just iknow I'd gotten way too comfy in bed with carbs/sugars and it cost me 6# at 5 yrs; 8# (fruit) at 8 yrs; and 12-13# at 11 yrs and I've had to do unusual things to get rid of that last batch. NO CARBS. Not bread, and yogurt (even the ones with 4g sugar!) are a thing of the past. At least until I stabilize again.
Of what you ate, when I'm in normal-mode, not "recovery", I would eat the English Muffin now & then; would not eat oatmeal; the tuna/cheese/whole grain crackers, but not the protein bar with. Either/or and my protein bars are appx 30g protein, either 2 or 4 carbs (I like 2 kinds best); and the fruit would be a rare occasion, not daily. I LOVE fruit. Too much. Then I'm back in bed with sugar again and my pants get tight and I get a roll and, so on!
I always do 6+ protein drinks/day, 30g each, always made with water. My fave is 0g sugar, but my #2 has 3g, #3 again is 0g. If I do my 6 and eat fairly senseibly, allowing salads, whole grains, I will hold my wt. Protein cannot make me fat again. Only if I do stuff to it.
We also sign an agreement to do the protein. I see the surgeon *****commends the 3 Nectars a day has entered the modern ages. As recently as 2002, he was vehemently opposed to proteinin supplement form AT ALL. But when I hear that, I'm thinking that they are thinking Boost, Ensure, CIB in milk, all weight gainers and I agree.

Oh, I would definitely call it grazing! Thanks for the input! I thought I was doing ok with the oatmeal. It is about 25-29g carbs, but I get 8 grams of protein and it does fill me up.... I honestly dont think I could do without SOME sort of fruit. Grapes is one that does cause carb crash in me - doc limited bananas, but I love my blue and strawberries.... The 15 minute meal - I need to remember that!
I just went and looked at your website! Didnt realize you had a grocery store of bariatrics! I get some protein bars from a company out of Vermont that only sells to GB patients. Yours are ALOT more affordable. I am partial to caramel chocolate nut......I think I need to go shopping on your website. I also get a wildberry passion protein mix to add to water, but I havent been able to tolerate the GNC Whey with water. Down the sink it went!
Recommendations please??!!!
I was the first, ever to offer stuff to US, did it many years before I even got on line. My site went up 7/98 and this one was 10/98, so Eric & I consider ourselves pioneers in this field.
Um, maybe try a tastier protein? Champion PUre Whey Stack is by far the most popular, creamy, good true flavors. And my personal fave is ProScore 100. Of course, I am strictly a chocolate girl. The PS100 is a bit thicker, maltier, doesn't shake quite as well as the others, but that's ok, as it tastes like I remember a Wendy's frosty and they keep me thin (if I keep my fingers out of thte cookie jar, so to speak).
On Bars, I like the Vitalady choc marshamallow; and then the Pure Protein S'mores and right now, I can't get enough Rockin Roll peanut (think: Payday). I don't count the protein in bars, only in drinks, but it is still a good non-carb meal sub for me.
I do apple slices (slice up an apple in a bag, eat a few now and then) or banana now and then. But stuff like grapes and watermelon? DANGER!! So, I will eat them OUT, where the portions are limited. At least the BB and Straw are low glycemic, but I just like them WAY too much.
