Let's talk about the tail bone (sore subject!)

I'm certainly happy with the weight that I've lost (210 lbs) but now that I've lost most of my behind, I'm having a hard time sitting without getting a sore tail bone. Softer surfaces like my couch and bed seem to be the worst. My chair at work and my car seat don't cause me any problems. Anyway, it almost feels like I'm getting a bed sore. Anyone else out there have problems and/or suggestions? Anyone have plastic surgery, and did it help? Thanks, Pam

I feel your pain.  I have lost 150 lbs. and have had the sore tail bone problem for quite awhile.  I purchased a donut pillow and keep it in my van at all times.  I cannot ride for any length of time without it.  I told my husband that if we took a trip longer than 5 hours that I was going to have to invest in some Jennifer Lopez padded underwear.  Anything is worth a try.  If you find a better solution, please share. Darlene, I haven't tried a donut yet. I've tried those wedges that have a hole for the tail bone, but those eventually get uncomfortable, too. I bought a gel-type seat cushion at Wal-Mart and it doesn't help at all. Sigh... Pam

I have had the same problem, Pam. I've lost 140 pounds, and a LOT of it seems to have come from my hips and bootie. As a result, sitting on hard seats is horribly uncomfortable. I just got back from a trip to CA with a friend (we drove from her place in Oregon down the coast to So Cal) and I was miserable by the time I got home. I saw my chiro, who said my tailbone was out of alignment. He adjusted it and I do feel much better. So that's the only suggestion I have, if you're open to chiropractic. The way we carry our weight is so different now, and I'm noticing a big difference in the way my hips and low back are, and am actually -- ironically -- needing to see my chiropractor much more often than when I was at my heaviest. Go figure....

Thanks, Missvickie. I hadn't even thought about the fact that my posture isn't the same as it was a year and a half ago. I'll have to see if I can find a decent chiropractor (the local guy doesn't have a very good rep). Pam

Ok true story.. my butt is killing me so i think i have some kind of rash or something.. I go to my pcp.. she is a sweet quiet woman and I tell her my butt is killing me.. she gets down on her knees to look at my butt and here it comes.. she says.. "well carla you bruised your a$$" and she chuckles. You dont have one anymore.. you need to use some padding and learn to sit a little easier. ok so am i embarrassed or what.. yes.. can you believe i went to the doc for a bruised butt..

I just an egg crate cushion on my chair at work, pillows on all other chairs now so I dont bruise myself. it is really bad. yesterday I went to the movies to see Shrek 3 and had to stand up cause the butt was killing me.

I am doing exercising in hopes of getting some butt back.. I think its helping a bit but I got a long way to go... good luck to you.

LOL! I have my 18-month followup with my surgeon in June and am going to ask him about it. It is a bit embarrassing to talk about. I never in my dreams thought I'd have to worry about not having enough padding on my behind. Mine doesn't feel like a bruise, more like a pressure sore. Probably the most compelling reason to have a lower body lift eventually...

Same here.... butt sore! Lost 120 lbs and can 't sit for any length of time without pain. I tend to sit to the side , on a cheek, and then switch on occassion. It doesn't look too obvious when you can finally cross your legs!

Helen, I know the cheek-to-cheek manuever very well! I dread having all-day meetings and training sessions at work because that's what I have to do all day trying to keep from hurting too bad. Unfortunately, I have one coming up on Monday... Pam
