What is the "Time Out Plan" I keep seeing people talk about?

Well, I am not the one who actually got it from my surgeon, but I got it from a fellow patient of my surgeon.  She mentioned it in a post early last week and it has just really spread across this board.  He called it a "Time Out" and it's basically going back to a liquid only phase like right after surgery.  In the original post, she explained that he wanted her to drink 3 protein shakes per day, preferably Syntrax nectars or another one she listed.  Just a low calorie and good quality protein.  The rest of the time you just drink low calorie liquids.  Crystal lite, water, etc.  However, she did say that he was putting her on this plan for 2 weeks and he would evaluate her progress to determine if she continued with just the shakes or added a salad at night.  I have the same surgeon, but I am doing the Time Out on my own because I live 6 hours away from him now and I am embarrassed to see him because I have held on to this regained weight for 2 years now.  He gave me a strict plan when I saw him 2 years ago and I didn't stick with it.  Anyway, just as a disclaimer, Patty is doing this plan under the care of her surgeon.  The rest of us just liked the idea and are doing it on our own.  So, the "Time Out" plan is not being endorsed or recommended to us by anyone.  It just sounds like a good way to get back on track, kick some food addictions, maybe shrink our pouches a little, and get some regain off.   Angela

It is officially, according to someone else's surgeon the following: Time Out Plan according to Dr. Wongsa: 3 Nectar Protein Shakes a Day  Crystal Light and Water That's It for two weeks My Reset Plan (resetting my pouch and my brain) 3 or 4 Nectar Protein Shakes a Day Sugar free liquids, mostly pure water* Bullion Cube for dinner with my family *the only reason I don't suck down Crystal Light by the gallon (love the stuff) is because as a new post op my two toddlers were doing the same and they ADORE it too. I am trying to model drinking water for them and that leads to a lot less diaper changes, LOL! They also only get fruit juices on rare occasion because it leads to obsesity! Also, I am adding another protein shake to this regimine when I want to. When I walk my 3 miles I definately will be adding that other shake to my plan. I am doing this for two weeks. I started on Friday and will end it 6/8 and start to consume lean dense proteins and veggies. The whole point of all this is to get ahold of myself and to think about what I have been putting in my mouth. I am regaining a lot of confidence in my ability to control myself again as well as hopefully resting my pouch after a few months of abuse.  HTH, Molly 252/161/135 PS, I am not a medical expert, just a girl at the end of my rope having great success with someone else's surgeon's advice! PLEASE if it is an option for you talk to your surgeon! You are in an enviable position. I

Good morning Molly - I have a quick question -won't this 'TIme Out' 2 week program throw our body into starvation mode?  I am confused about this - I thought that lower calories hamper our progress?  I am almost 2 years post op, and am struggling to rid these last 30lbs - I want to try the Time Out, but am curious about the starvation mode aspect.  Sorry if Im being a pessimist, but I want to make sure that its alright for us to try.........have a blessed day!  deb

I guess only time will tell. So far I have lost 4 pounds since Friday and you are welcome to follow my progress before you start such a drastic undertaking. I understand your concern and am only sharing my progress here which has been great so far. I am regaining control and it is not easy but I really am not that hungry and am having lots of time to think about WHY I have been eating so wrong and will be really ready for some good healthy foods after this instead of the crap I was eating.  Ask your surgeon and let me know what she/he says! I would love to know! But so far it is working for me.  GL, Molly

I don't know, I'm not sure what the deal is with that. I'm sure any good quality protein shake will be great. Especially if it is really low in carbs. I just figured since I already like that kind of protein...why not? Also I enjoy the fact that you don't have to mix it with milk. I already have two little kids drinking milk and we go through a lot of it. Plus it has sugars. ANYWAY, LOL!  If you have a surgeon or nut. you can check with please do and let me know what they say about staving off hunger or who knows maybe they will not reccomend this plan for you anyways.  It's not easy but I'm not having any light-headed episodes either. Sorry, I'm no help.

LOL ok I see it's sorta like the Slim Fast plan minus the sensible dinner lol.  I think it's a good cleansing I think I might try this out myself to go cold turkey from carbs and clean out my system as well. :)
