7 1/2 years out, odd pain, thoughts?
Hi All,
I will be eight years out from open RNY in december and have done wonderfully with no complications at all.
The past few days when I eat or drink something, sometimes, not always, I get an odd dull ache in my right mid section, just below my ribcage. I do not have a gall bladder. I have an appt. with my doc but wondered if anyone had any thoughts. I have thought maybe an ulcer?? The ache is the only symptom I have. No nausea or anything like that. It does not last long at all and is not uncomfortable in most cases to bother me, more of an annoyance.
Anyone have any thoughts about this?
Thanks!!
Donna

Omg almost 8 years that is great can I ask a few questions first congrats from the bottom of my heart that is great how was the ride? Did you gain? what was your total lost from what being your highest weight? Omg I am struggling big time picking up old habits already at 1 year out and you have almost 8 wow.
I was debating answering this one, because my mind is sorta bent since I work with so many long termers.
But if you are NOT transected (long time ago), then perhaps you do have a real ulcer, maybe in your old stomach. If it was a marginal ulcer (in the pouch, where the intestine connects), it might present as pain in front and in back, nausea, water tastes metallic.
The other thing we see post op are, sadly, small bowel obstructions, which can hide from view in the various radiological studies. Very frustrating since they do those tests on an empty system, but you only have pain when there is food on board! So, they test you empty, nothing shows up, you go home, have some ham and cheese for lunch and are rolling on the floor in pain while scartching your headin wonderment.
If your bowels are acting any diferently than usual, please see your doc ASAP, otherwise, see him regular-time-soon

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
