Protein drinks

I actually like the Atkins ready to drink protein drinks that you can get at the grocery store or Walmart.  They are a little higher in calories and only have 15 grams of protein for an 11 ounce can, but they taste really good to me.  Muscle Milk ready to drink is absolute delicious, but its kind of expensive.  It comes in vanilla, banana creme, chocolate, chocolate mint, and mocha joe (coffee).  There might even be a few more flavors and you can get it at GNC.  I also tried the Unjury chicken broth flavor in a sample packet from their website and it was actually pretty good mixed with just warm water.  I would imagine mixing it with actual chicken broth would really make it good.  It's good for when you don't want sweet drinks.  Isopure has bottles of ready to drink protein that comes in fruity flavors like a kool-aid drink.  They are also kind of expensive, but not too bad.  You can buy them at GNC by the individual bottle so you make sure you can stand the taste.  I haven't found many powders that I like.  They just don't taste as good as the ready to drink to me.  There are several websites that offer powder samples for a low fee though.  I would definitely suggest that because no one wants a big tub of yucky protein they won't drink.  It's definitely a personal preference because I can't stand some of the ones that other people rave about.  You just have to find a few you like and stick with it.  I am also on the Time Out plan from my surgeon and in 2 days I have lost 3 lbs.  I have cheated a little though because it's very hard to cut out food completely.  I have had some salad, fruit, and cheese.  It's still way better than I was eating.  Good luck to you. Everybodys different-but I really, really like "Body Fortress" protein powder in vanilla from Walmart-I mix it with some crystal light (store brand) and a few frozen strawberries in the blender.  YUMMY!  It is so good-23g protein.  My hubby even makes himself one-just because it tastes so good.

Is there a particular kind of Crystal Light that you use?

Any of these are what I use:

1.) Champion ProScore 100 choco + 8 oz water + ice, blended (hand blender or Magic Bullet).
2.) Champion Pure Whey Stack choco + 6-8 oz water, shaken.
3.) IDS vanilla-cinnamon + "glop" of DaVinci sugar free caramel sauce + 8 oz water + ice, blended.
4.) the PWS chco + the van-cin (50/50) in about 10 oz ho****er, stirred or hand blender.

Lately I've been adding a shake of cinnamon to my hot ones since cinnamon fights belly fat.

I always put 1 scoop of UpCal D powder in (500mg calcium citrate, 250 IU of vit D3).

Nectars are good, just not my personal cup of "chocolate", but I think you can find them for A LOT LESS MONEY!

My criteria for a protein is:
30g protein in
less than 200 cal with
less than 5g sugar
and makes up in 4-8 oz of water
for less than $2/serving

Since I've always done proteini (13 yrs), it's hard to imagine how I coulda controlled my wt all this time without! Wow, you are very brave!

Please excuse my ignorance, but what is IDS?  And where do I find it?  Also, the DaVinci Sugar Free caramel sauce, where would I find that one? I am very interesting in trying some of the ideas I have read hear... Thanks to everyone!

IDS is a brand name. They have choc, van-cin, banana and capuccino. I don't especially like coffee, so I think the cap is WAY too strong. Don't like the Nectar one, either. And even tho I live in Starbucks-land, I don't like them, either. LOL

So, depends on your personal taste. IDS is an isolate, the others I mentioned are blends. Part isolate, part concentrate, so they satisfy longer.

I hate powders and use the canned ready-to-drink.  I used to use Atkins becasue it tastes really good but it also has a whopping 9 grams of fat.  Nowadays, I use "Micellar Milk" which has 40 grams of protein, 4 grams of sugar and only  2 grams of fat.  the chocolate tastes like yoo hoo.  Get it at bariatric eating.com or at vitamin shoppe.

I love the Worldwide Nutrition Pure Protein shakes.  I buy the ready to drink cans from www.vitaminshoppe.com.  They are 160 calories, 1 or 2 grams of fat, and 35 grams of protein.  They have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and banana.   I've also seen the chocolate and vanilla at Trader Joe's if you have one of those near you.
