Need ideas--I don't like to eat in summer
For some reason I don't like to eat in summer. The idea of chewing a chunk of meat--regardless of how it is prepared--just turns me off. Even salads seem like too much effort. I don't want to cook, frozen meals help but I can't do a lot of them. In the past, pre-wls, I would eat lots of fruit and ice cream supplemented with occasional junk food.
I need to keep up my protein, but I can't tolerate the protein drinks. I don't eat cheese (yes, I'm one of the few Americans who actually doesn't like cheese). I did yogurt this morning, but it has only 5 g of protein. I drink skimmed milk to get more protein in, but I know I need to get in more.
Any ideas for easy to prepare and eat high protein foods? I like food and usually don't have a problem with eating most things--sometimes chicken gives me problems--but for some reason eating in the summer is just a drag.
Thanks,
Sally
SHAVED DELI MEATS! That saves me all year long. When I just get sick of chicken and fish, I will go to the deli and pick out the best roast beef I can find. Don't care if it is expensive, I'm worth it and can't eat that much at one time anyway. Roast beef with a little bleu cheese and roasted asparagus is my favorite meal. I eat asparagus for a snack all the time. While my hubby is munching on chips, I throw 5 or 6 stalks in my toaster coated with a little olive oil and season salt. Keeps me on the straight and narrow.

Thanks, I hadn't thought of that. I usually don't eat the thin sliced deli meats. I get them to cut it really thick and cube it to add to soups and such--it's a good way to increase the protein.
I'm not an asparagus fan except for the roasted. Have you tried it with a touch of balsamic vinegar before roasting? Wonderful.

I always ask them to shave it. It makes it so tender and I can chew it to the really fine consistency that I need.
I'll try the balsamic vinegar idea. I keep some in my pantry, just never thought of it with asparagus. Occassionally I will use a teaspoon of caesar dressing for a dip. Will definitely try the vinegar. Any more good ideas for summer, anyone? My husband loves anything italian, pasta and hamburger which I can't eat much. I'm always looking for alternatives for me.

You could always add some unflavored protein powder like Unjury to your yougurt to up the protein, also they have the "bullets" that you could use to get some protein, just a quick shot of protein. Just remember that your body can only process 24-28 grams of protein an hour so anything over that is not useful.

Seafood is a good idea, Sally. I eat a lot of seafood in the summer. Tuna salad is easy to mix up and eat, either in a sandwich, on crackers, or just with a spoon. I also buy shrimp or scallops, quickly whip up a marinade, soak them while the grill is heating up and toss them on skewers. It only takes a short period of time on the grill and they're excellent. I'll also put other veggies -- red and yellow peppers, mushrooms and zucchini on skewers and grill those up as well. It makes for a nice light and healthy dinner.
If you like yogurt and nonfat milk, you might try smoothies as well. Even if you don't add protein powder, you could add tofu and yogurt and frozen berries and you'd have a good, healthy snack/meal.
Good luck! I find I do a lot better this time of the year since I'm not wanting carbs so much. I'm really happy with grilled meats and veggies; I just have to watch out for the baked beans which, while delicious, probably aren't too healthy.
