Hello, I need some help!  I am am 2 1/2 years post-op, went from 315 to 136 and have not gained any weight back.  I need some guidance on what vitamins to take?  I have asked the Dr.'s with no response?  My labs are good, the only thing is my Potassium is low.  I have been feeling extremly tired lately, I think it is because I am not taking any vitamins? I also have had a bought with Kidney Stones, my specialist says it is related to my surgery, but the surgeon who did my gastic by-pass will not admit it. I am also not sleeping at nite.  I take tylenol PM but by 12:30am I am wide awake?  Does anyone have any thoughts or a vitamin regime?  I am 36 yrs old, have one daughter, thinking about becoming pregnant again soon!  I would appreciate any advice.  Thanks so much!

You've not taken ANY vitamins at all since surgery?!? You need to take a multi-vitamin w/ iron, B-12 (sublingual), calcium citrate...these are a BARE minimum that are needed, Hon.  IF you decide to get pregnant, get with a dietician BEFORE doing so, PLEASE, OK? I'm just VERY concerned about you!  :-) ~~Sherry

Michelle,  I am 3 years post op and here are the vitamins I take. B12-sublingual (I do daily cause my B12 was low, usually taken weekly) 2 Flintstones chewables (I do Walmart brand cause its cheaper) Calcium Citrate 1200mg Vitamin D (script cause mine was low) Iron 29mg chewable Don't take the Iron and calcium together because they will not allow each other to absorb.  Wait at least 2 hours between. I would also suggest you see a dietician before you even think of getting pregnant, actually I think you should probably see one ASAP. Darlene

Holy cow, Michele!  I cannot BELIEVE that your doc hasn't told you to take vitamins!  That is just irresponsible in my opinion.  My surgeon drummed that stuff into my head, and every post-op appt I had they grilled me to make sure I was taking everything I was supposed to take.  Here is the "bare mimimum" list that I was given following surgery.  I believe our vitamin needs increase as time goes on, so I'm glad to hear that your labs are still good.  You may want to make sure that you're getting all the lab work you really need, too.  I hope Vitalady will post on this one - she has a great list of the tests that we need to have run.  Anyway, here's the list: 1 Multi-vit (I use Centrum, started with chewables and moved on to regular-don't use children's) 1500 mg calcium (I use a capsule-type as they dissolve easily) 500 mg Vit C (chewable again) Iron (this is a tough one as to amounts-I use Tender Iron carbonyl, take 6 per day, each is 29mg) 500 mcg B-12 (sublingual-under the tongue-works best for us) Sorry, I don't know about the insomnia, or whether or not your vitamin issues would relate.  Same with the kidney stones, I don't know if it could be related to surgery.  Best wishes to you.
