teeth
I had RNY almost 18 months ago. About a month ago I started to notice I have very dicolored teeth on the top and bottom and mostly in the front. It almost looks like mold is growing on my teeth. I am so embarrassed to smile or even talk. I take my vitamins faithfully everyday. I see my dentist regularly. I have an appointment in a month or so for a cleaning. Does anyone else have anything like this? I don't know what to do. I am also planning on attending my surgeon's support group this week and maybe he will have some additional insight. It is just very frustrating!
How much and what kind of calcium are you taking? How much dry for vit D?
While I was always taking some, it wasn't enough, as we found out later.
I finally started noticing that my teeth were dingy in pix. I wrote it off to so much protein drinks and much less water.
Teeth are in good shape, but I eventually got an accurate mold made at the dentist and bleached often for awhile until I reached a normal color again (matched to crown).

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
Do you mean Caltate by brand? That's carbonate! Or did you mean calcium citrate?
It's about half of what you need right now. Later, even more.
The rx D is D2 in oil. We don't absorb much oil and we are unable to convert D2 to D3. It'll be slow to bring it up. Dry form D3 is much faster since it's already D3 and it's powder in a teensy capsule (even the 50,000)

Frequently tooth discoloration is from medications taken in childhood. But if this is a new event, I would ask the dentist about it. She/he would probably know more than the surgeon. My teeth are okay, but I developed a couple of quarter-sized spots on my skin. These turned out to be a reaction to the B12 sublingual I was taking! The surgeon had never heard of that before. The dermatologist wasn't sure what it was a reation but just that it was a reaction to one of my supplements. Fortunately, it was the B12, so I just get the shots now and the spots are improving.
Good luck,
Sally
Thank you for your response Sally
I have a dentist appointment coming up in either June or July I need to check what is my exact date. I hope he will have some insight on the subject. I am a person who has never had to take any medications on a regular basis. The teeth dicoloration has just started about two months ago. I am glad your spots are improving.
