I had my RNY bypass in 2002.  I was 249 the day of surgery, which was my highest weight.  I got down to 119.  I am  now about 170.  For the past few weeks, I have REALLY been doing well with my eating (lean proteins, low to no sugar, no refined carbs etc.) with plenty of water.  I even went back to the gym!!!!  I weighed myself this morning, thinking surely i have lost, WRONG!!!  I GAINED 5 @$#^#$^ POUNDS!!!  I had an RNY bypass, so there is no hope for me if I gain this weight back.  I feel like jumping off of the Mississippi river bridge right now. ONLY can a Louisianian say, "I feel like jumping off the MIssissippi River Bridge right now" and not be immediately taken to a psychiatric ward!!!!!!  I'm from outside of New Orleans.  I remember when they used to say, "You'd better becareful saying things like that or they'll send you to Mandeville!"  Remember when "Mandeville" was the psychiatric end of it all b/c the state psychiatric hospital was there?  LOL   I ended up living in Mandeville and it was a source of jokes for my family for years.  They always knew I'd end up "in Mandeville."  I suspect you've GAINED weight b/c you've been working out and your body is saying #(&)**@??? Don't give up.  One week of getting back to the basics isn't going to take you back to 119 or even 135 or 150 or 160.  Rome wasn't built in a day and I suspect you didn't put on weight in a day or a week either.   Perserverence.  It sucks.  It's hard.   YOU CAN DO IT!!!!! Yes, YOU can!

I have two sides to my brain - a right side and a left side.  The trouble is sometimes there is nothing left in the right side and nothing right in the left side.

Hi V Thanks so much for the words of encouragement.  I DO know about Mandeville!!!  haha! I am a nurse and I remember when we did our psych rotation in nursing school, they mentioned Mandeville........It is nice to hear from a fellow Louisianaian..... I know you are exactly right...i didn't regain all this weight overnight, so I know it won't come off overnight either.  I went shopping yesterday with my skinny friends.....BIG mistake!!!  They were complaining about having to buy a size 6, they were like "oh my goodness, I am in a 6!!!!" I wanted to puke!!!!!   I know I can do it, I think I just needed to vent. Again, THANK YOU for the encouragement.  That was sweet of you. Lorri

Hi Lorri Go to page 2 of this board and see Patty Butler's thread on "Update on Time Out Program".  You might find that this may just be the thing you are looking for to get you back on track.  I plan on starting  this program this week.  I was not able to last week as I planned because I had gotten sick--> ear infections, fever, sinisitis, bronchitis and felt that I needed to eat solids rather than liquid protein.  Anyway, Patty  lost 16 lbs in 12 days as per the recommendation from her Dr.   Don't JUMP before reading this thread!  LOL  Cheer UP!  We all fall off the wagon!  We are only human! Good Luck! Hugs Marianne

Hi Lorri!! I'm kind of feeling the same way you are today.  I've been in DENIAL for weeks now.  It's so good to see that there are others that are struggling.  Best of Luck.  I'd jump off the Mississippi bridge but in Northern MN you can literally walk across the Mississippi (Itasca anyway--ha) You can do it!! ~~P~~
