Help! 5 years post op and need to get back on track!
Hi, I had my RNY on 05/27/02. At the time of my surgery, I weighed 249. I got down to 119 (I looked terrible) and now I am up to 156. I want to get back down to 125-130. I have completely reverted back to my old eating habits. I don't eat a lot at one time, but I eat all day!!! I am a nurse and I was doing well when I worked at the hospital, but now I have a desk job and I sit all day long. I am not doing anything physical and I know that is a huge part of it. Does anyone know if I can go back to how I was post op as far as my pouch size? What I mean is, if I start to eat more like I should be, will my pouch shrink some back to what is was closer to my surgery?
I appreciate any help!
Thanks!
Lorri
OH MY GOSH U JUST WROTE MY SAME STORY, CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS TO SAY.
MY OFFICE BRINGS IN ALL KINDS OF STUFF IT IS SO HARD TO STAY GOOD, I BRING IN PROTINE LIKE CHEESE AND FRUIT, VEG AND DIP TO PICK ON ALL DAY BUT I FIND MYSELF GOING TOWARD THE OTHER FOOD. I WOULD RATER GRANGE ALL DAY THEN SIT DOWN TO A MEAL
That is so true what you said about grazing all day long. I would much rather do that than sit down to a meal. I sit at the computer all day too so I find myself snacking when I am not in the least bit hungry!!! It is a bad habit. I have started trying to ask myself first before getting a snack, "am I really hungry right now??" Most of the time, the answer is no. I just like to eat for no reason! Sick isn't it?? Thanks for replying! Lorri
Hi there. I've known people that will do protein shakes for a week to try to shrink their pouch. I sufferred from the same problem, and the solution for me was to get a lap band over my bypass. Read my profile for details.
I know how difficult it is to hold back from snacking all day long... I also have a desk job and I feel like I have to eat or I just can't work... But after being banded, I physically CANNOT eat a lot, and if I try to, I will throw up! My pouch is tiny again and I'm in total control... I love my band.

OH yes, it is possible. Some surgeons are recommending it to their old bypass patients who have re-gained.
Insurance did not pay for mine because I was not fat enough (I was about 180 and scared to death of gaining anymore). I had no intention of gaining MORE weight, so I decided to self-pay. I headed to Mexico because the cost is 1/2 of what it costs in the States. I paid $12,500.00 for it. The surgeon I used has taught many US doctors how to do lap bands and he also specializes in doing bands over bypasses. I had a great experience with him.
You probably have lots of questions so feel free to send me a message anytime.

Lorri,
Welcom to my world. I had my RNY done November 29, 2001 and have regaind about 40 pounds too. And I've been eating everything but what I needed to for the last year - depression, pain and other issues set off stress eating.
My surgeon just put me on his Time Out program - nothing but 3 protein shakes and crystal light type drinks and water for two weeks. At the end of two weeks I have to call him and he will decide what I do next. I started this last Sunday so it's been 5 days. Good news is that I haven't had any problems sticking to it and I've lost 7 pounds. I feel much better than I have in months -and have more energy than I've had in a long time.
Try talking with your doctor about what you need to do to get on track. I know this is working for me.
