What do you all think about Diet Pills after WLS? My endocrinologist wants to prescribe Bontril to help me lose the last 40 pounds and to stabilize my thyroid. I told him I would have to check with my OH family first. Has anyone ever used this medication. What do you guys think?

Are you also going to check with your gastric bypass doc?  You want to make sure it will not damage your pouch.

I don't know that I'd want to touch this stuff: http://www.weight-loss-institute.com/products/bontril.htm

Product description: Bontril is the brand name of Phendimetrazine, produced by Carnrick Laboratories Inc. Bontril is an appetite suppressant and central nervous system stimulant. It stimulates the satiety (feeling of fullness) centre in the hypothalamus and limbic regions of the brain. Bontril must be used in combination with a low calorie diet, behaviour modification and regular exercise. Appetite suppressants are not a substitute for proper diet. If any weight is lost using Bontril, our research shows that it is usually regained shortly after the patient discontinues the medication. Side effects: Bontril has caused different side effects like restlessness, anxiety, dizziness, headache, insomnia, diarrhea, dry mouth and changes in the patients sex drive, allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of lips or tongue), hallucinations, extreme hypertension, chest pain, pounding heart and difficulty urinating. Bontril can also be habit forming. You can become physically and psychologically dependent on this medication, and withdrawal effects may occur if you stop taking it.
