Hair Loss?

Just wanted to share:  I'm six months out, and about six weeks ago I began to notice that more and more hair was left in my comb.  Upon closer examination, I could see that my hair was thinning at the top!!!!   "WHY IS THIS HAPPENING??"  I asked myself!  I was getting in my protein!  I was eating right!  I was doing EVERYTHING right!!!!   I did a little searching and lo and behold, this is normal.  I was told by the nutritionist that, as long as I got in all of my protein, I didn't have to worry about my hair falling out.  UGH!!! I was skeptical at first, but I started taking Silica Complex (a vitamin supplement) about three weeks ago, and my hair and nails ARE THRIVING!!!  My hair is growing. . .hardly any hair left in the comb after combing. . .the hair on top of my head is filling in nicely, and my nails are growing like CRAZY!!!!  It's time for a manicure--which I never really bothered to get because my nails would never grow to any substantial length. If I had known about Silica Complex, I would have started taking them before my surgery (as I did with my other supplements)!

Hair loss can occur for many reasons.  Following surgery like we've had, hair loss happens to many, right about where you are now.  You can get it from any trauma to the body, like surgery or pregnancy. other causes include:  protein deficieincy, hypo- or hyper-thyroidism, iron (ferritin) deficiency, other vitamin deficiencies, hormonal fluctuations. I didn't lose any hair after surgery, but lost a tremendous amount at 15 months post-op.  I was thinning noticably across the crown.  I did quite a bit of research on the internet.  I knew I wasn't protein deficient.  My hypothyroidism was adequately compensated.  I'd taken biotin daily since before surgery.  My labs were pretty much normal, except my ferritin level had dropped to 13 (from 46 pre-op).   I started taking 2 Gentle Iron capsules daily last August.  By December, my ferritin had risen to 36 and my hair had started filling in from the outside toward the center.  I'm not due for blood wor****il June, so I don't know where my ferritin is today.  My hair is still a bit thin right in the middle of the top of my head, but it is filling in nicely. There are a lot of things that can contribute to hair loss.  One more reason to monitor our labs and make sure we take all our supplements.

I ordered it online at www.vitaminusa.com.  You may be able to get it at a vitamin store, though.  :O)

www.puritan.com, their Easy Iron is the same formula as the Gentle Iron.  I know they are having a "buy 1-get 1" sale now, sometimes even have "buy 2-get 3" sales. Wal-Mart isn't carrying Gentle Iron anymore, and I'm not even sure it is still being made.  The website listed on the bottle doesn't seem to exist, either.
