Losing After 17 months
Hey everyone! I have not posted in a long time, but since today is my first day off since october I thought I would check in!
I have been the same weight since about November, between 175 to 170, I have increased my excerise since then and still nothing. I started at about 292, so I feel I can not complain.
Sometimes I wonder if this is the weight I should be, that my body just won't let go of the weight.
Is there any suggestion you could give?
When I saw my surgeon back in september, he thought I wouldn't lose anymore, at the time I thought he was crazy however, he predictions seem to be true.
any help would be appreciated.

I was having this same problem. I was exercising like crazy and couldn't lose anything. So with me, it turned out I wasn't losing because of the food I was eating. I started tracking on fitday. Kept my calories between 1200 and 1500 and ate at least 80 grams of protein a day. Since the beginning of March, I've lost 12lbs. I think it is still possible to lose after a year and a half..just takes a lot longer. You can do it!!

Hey Rue! I agree w/Kerri~it just takes a little longer the farther out that you get. Tracking on Fitday or Sparkpeople was a great suggestion. I've been doing maitenance for awhile now, but if I put a few lbs on I know I can get them right back off it I work it.You didn't say how tall you are or what your BMI currently is??? My surgeon thought I would hang out around 165lbs, but my goal was 150lbs~I made it to goal and now I float around in the 150's depending on the day. Have you tried changing things up with your workout or eating routine? Also, I do believe that our body has a set point and maybe this is the weight that your body wants to stay at??? Anyway, it sounds like you've done a great job so far! Congratulations on all of your success and Good Luck in making it to whatever your personal goal is!

Your body may have become adjusted to your work-out. Do you incorporate strength training? Have you increased your weight or cardio? Have you varied your workout? Your body will become accustomed to doing the same thing and will maintain. Decrease the amount of calories you take in on the days you are not at the gym. Increase your workout, monitor your caloric intake.
Hi Rue,
I was just about to post about "How do we WLS Grads diet", but, you spared me the post, thanks!
I was trying to figure out what to do to lose the last 10 lbs. I had surgery in March '06 and lost down to 140 (from 241) by November. Now, I've been bouncing around 138-142 since then. I'm not really tracking what I eat, but, I'm very conscious about getting in a protein shake a day and I always have salad with chicken for dinner. I'm guessing I'll have to up my protein, pay attention to calories (ughhh, this seems so much like pre-op) and up the exercise.
I think it is achievable, it just seems like my body likes 140. I also dread the thought of "dieting". During the first 9 months after WLS, I really did change my life style with respect to how I eat. It kinda scares me to think I have to resort to what I used to do all the time (Diet) to lose the last 10 lbs.
Any one else feel this way?
I ABSOLUTELY feel that way! I too have that "last 10 pounds" to get rid of and just dread the thought of having to track everything I eat. LOL Part of me wonders if my body is at its comfortable spot, and the other part of me is curious to see if I can actually get rid of that last pesky 10 pounds.
I may have to try the sparkpeople thing. And then eat crow if it works!
How fattening is crow?
