Hi, Michael.  The song that inspires me through my whole life and not just the WLS journey is "This One's For the Girls" by Marina McBride.  I have never felt like I was worth anything (and, unfortunately, the surgery hasn't made that any better  - and, at almost 53, I think that ship has sailed!). When I listen to this song, it makes me feel like maybe I AM worth something!!

Hugs,

The one I absolutely love is on my profile as a video,  Josh Groban's 'You are Loved"  Always makes me feel like there is hope!

Great question.  My current favorite is Montgomery Gentry's "Some People Change."  I think it applies to all WLS grads! Ok, it talks about prejudices and alcholism, but I love the idea; some people DO change.  One of the lines is something like, "Bless those who make it, let them be the light" and that's how I think of those ahead of me.

I found a great one by accident a month before surgery. It's called "Bigger Than My Body" by John Mayer.   The chorus says: Someday I'll fly, someday I'll soar Someday I'll be so damn much more Cuz I'm bigger than my body gives me credit for. I think it's an ironic statement....being bigger than your body.

Every time I hear the song "Unwritten" by Natasha Bedingfield, I think of my journey.  Some of the lyrics are below: I am unwritten, can't read my mind, I'm undefined I'm just beginning, the pen's in my hand, ending unplanned Staring at the blank page before you Open up the dirty window Let the sun illuminate the words that you could not find Reaching for something in the distance So close you can almost taste it Release your inhibitions Feel the rain on your skin No one else can feel it for you Only you can let it in No one else, no one else Can speak the words on your lips Drench yourself in words unspoken Live your life with arms wide open Today is where your book begins The rest is still unwritten
