Sheila,
I know how you feel. I take 13 pills a day, and they are all just some form of vitamin or iron or calcium. At one point I was up to 17 pills a day because I had an ulcer. Anyways, I seem to be deficient in everything. *sigh* Oh well.. Like you said, it's still better than before. I hope things get better soon :)
Kerri.
Fe gluconate is good ON PAPER, but I've not seen good results with it. I use Tender Iron, have all along and have stellar labs. Just got labs last week, and it's sorta like studying my report card. Only this one is way better than the ones I got in school. LOL
I get my copies myself, because where *I* want my levels is not the same as "fine". For example. my surgeons are ok with B12 anywhere over 200. I want my levels over 800. Fortuntately, my PCP has seen that study, and he writes the rx for B12 shots weekly. My surgeon would tell me I don't need them until my levels are dangerously low.
My surgeons would be ok with a vit D level of anything over 30, for example, but my endo wants it over 50 and I want 70. I just scored 69.9. And so on, thru that list. I want what are optimum levels, since I'm the one that has to feel it.
Anyway, just a reminder that iron must always be taken with vit C, never with dairy, caffeine, eggs or whole grains OR any other vites, minerals or meds. Alone together, for at least an hour. Tender Iron can be taken with food, so i usually take a few bites of fruit or veggie. I don't take any pills on empty.
You are surprised? I'm guessing you were not launched on iron? B-complex will take care of the B6. Shots and/or sublinguals will cover the B12.
Here's where the deficiencies will be:
protein
iron
calcium
A, D, E
B1
B6
B12
zinc
There are ways to prevent and/or treat these, but they are specific. A, D, E have to be dry form, not oil. Iron should not be ferruos suflate. Calcium has to be citrate and a lot of it.
What are you taking for iron? And vit A? Did they test vit D? Did you get copies?
they tested everything. i already get b 12 shots. I already take a multi vitamin and 2400 mg of calcium citrate a day, i also just got put on zinc cause my hair started falling out again. the dr said i was very low in vit A, vit B6, and Iron. so i just started all of them today.

my doc gave me ferrous gluconate... is that okay.. I just recently changed docs and this one thinks this will be gentle enough for my pouch.. at least he knew I could NOT take ferrous sulfate
ps.. thanks for that quick little vit lesson.. I have been luck to be good on all levels except for my iron.. seems to go wacky every other six months
Thanks
H
One thing about the B12 shots, too...is how often are you doing them? what are the levels that showed in your blood work? It could be you need shots more often to keep the levels up. GB patients have found they do best with levels consistently in the high 100s.
