OT - Cat ?

I have an off-topic question.  I adopted a cat from the shelter yesterday for my daughter (who will be 22 soon).  She needs me to keep her until August when she switches to an apartment that allows pets.  My question: I have 3 cats of my own.  Stacy says I can keep Buttercup closed in a room away from my cats but I hate to do that for the whole time.  If Buttercup gets used to being w/my cats, will it be "bad" for her to move w/my daughter in August and be alone?  Would it be better to keep her seperate the whole time?  Opinions?!?   Thanks for the help!!!!

Hugs,
Connie

Hey Connie -  From personal experience, I think it would be better for you to socialize her with the other cats.  Coming from a shelter environment, she has been exposed to other cats along the way, so I would think the transition with your family will be good for her.  I also hope that your daughter is able to bond with her as much as possible before moving her to the new apartment, thus making the move for Buttercup easier, as well. Animals are hardy creatures and tend to adapt to their surroundings relatively quickly so long as they are given the much-needed (and deserved!) love and attention they require! Good luck! Hugs! Thanks, Kristi!  My daughter is coming w/me to pick her up today and spending the night.  She's still in college, graduating in May.  She's already said she'll be home every weekend to bond!!!  This is gonna kill her not being able to take Buttercup right away.  I appreciate your response - I, also, thought it would be better for her to be w/the fam than to be shut away for 3 mos.  Trust me - Buttercup will get SO SO much love - I always have more than enough!  LOL

Hugs,
Connie

Hi, Connie!  I agree with socializing the cats while they are together.  I'm in the same situation as you - fostering my son and DIL's cat until they can move to a place that allows pets.  I've had her since last June, and they will probably be moving sometime during the upcoming winter.  She's doing really well with both my cat and dog.  The first month was a little rough, but everyone adjusted and they all get along fine now.  It would be extremely difficult to keep them separated, and I don't think it would be good for them either.  Animals are extremely resilient, and I'm sure your daughter's kitty will readjust very well when she takes her to her own apartment.  Good luck,

Carlita

Thanks, Carlita!  We agreed yesterday that, after a few days to make sure she's all healthy, we'll let her out w/her nieces (?) - it's torture for me to hear her cry in that room all by herself but, selfishly, I don't want to sit in there for hours w/no tv.  Also, I have to apologize profusely to MY girls when I come back out after having abandonded them!  LOL  So we're taking her to the vet on Saturday for a thorough check - although she seems fine - and then we'll start the introductions!  She is absolutely precious - it's gonna be hard to give her up in August!  Thanks for the good advice!

Hugs,
Connie
